Do I have to take a police report to my interview?

Hi there fellow VJ members! I'm very excited because I received my NOA2 for my adjustment of status yesterday, indicating my interview date and time. It also has a check list on the items I have to take to the interview. In that check list there is a box that says to take a police record if ever been arrested, & if no record is available to take a a letter from the court. My question is; Do I(the beneficiary) have to take a police report, even though I have never been arrested before or had any sort of criminal record? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, I feel like it is only for those who have been arrested before, but I just want to make sure I take everything that I'm supposed to. Does my husband(the petitioner) have to take a police report also?

Thank you all for your time and would appreciate your response.

In our case, fingerprinting failed twice (and we never got directions what to do next), so I went to our local police station, paid the $2.00 and got a copy for my wife.

Good thing, too, because at out AOS interview, we were told flat out "If you did not have this document with you, you'd have had gotten an RFE and your case would have been delayed".

I'd get it. It's cheap, it's easy, and it'll put your mind at ease.

You the beneficiary do need to bring a police report for yourself. Didn't you need one at the interview stage at the embassy? You should be able to obtain one whether you've committed a crime or not. It would just be blank if there are no arrests/convictions.

I was a child when I was issued my visa, I don't recall any interviews. But I will be getting it just in case. Thank you for your advice & for sharing!

I believe if you are abroad you might only need a criminal history report from the U.S. You can get it from your local U.S. police/courts office.

Wow, lots of bad info here. People doing Adjustment of Status in the US do NOT need a police cert (unless their fingerprints are unreadable as mentioned above). No, you do not need a police cert. That is only if you have been arrested, you must bring the details of it.

If you are abroad, you do not need police certs from the US.

:help: I just wanted to reopen this topic for a little clarity, so thanks in advance VJers! My fiance just called me today saying that I should have submitted his blank police report (he doesn't have a criminal record) almost two weeks after I sent in the I-129F. However, I thought I read in the guide only submit if there is in fact something to report, which in his case there is nothing to report. My fiance's brother explained to me that when he and his wife were filing, he had to submit his blank criminal report as well. But they filed an I-130. I read through this thread but I didn't get a definite answer; was I supposed to include a police report with my I-129F even though my fiance doesn't have a record? (Hope this isn't too confusing  )

Bekky Boo, this question pertains to Adjustment of Status in the US, not a fiance visa. Any advice given here does not apply to you. The K-1 forum is the first one on the forum page. Good luck.

@ Harpa,

I am filling out the I130 and 485 my husband was arrested before but I dont think he has a record because they had no way to identify him he gave them his name but thats all they had should I try to get a police certificate to mail in with my document and explain or wait for them to ask I have to answer on the 485 that he was in jail so do I just explain and wait for them to give me instructions?

Thank u!!
