Hello Everyone, Im just womdering of some of the Nigerians here can help me out with some of the questions I have.

I just got approved now awaiting the NOA2 letter. I want to get everything I can get done now before I go into labor.

1) Im going to need a co sponsor, where do I locate the poverty guidelines? Do I include the baby in our family size cause she isnt born yet but will be anyday now. Any advice on what the Nigerians requirements about co sponsor everything I can find here has been about Manilla which seems to be a difficult issue for them. Hoping Nigeria is a little more relaxed on this matter.

2) my fiance's passport was stolen he didnt file a police report when it happened is this going to raise a red flag if he does this now and get his replacement passport? We met up in Europe, other than the pictures and my stamps we have no proof he was there. I havent been back to Nigeria for over 2 years.

3) his birth certificate does his mom need to be there to sign or can he just get it on his own?

4) Any general tips of what else I can be gathering & preparing while I wait for the letter or baby which one ever comes first.

1) Poverty Guidelines are here, not sure if Nigeria accepts co-sponsor but others will chime in. You won't include the baby though the CO may consider that.

2) Embassy wants a current passport that has at least a 6 month validity. He has no proof that you and him were together in the past two years? Problem. Your stamps prove that he was, what proof do you have that he was there with you in Europe at teh same time? Think along that same line to see what you can come up with.

3) He can get his own birth certificate. We already has ours but someone said they paid #2,000. Make sur ehe knows to get a certified copy from his local government like this one:

Notice the stamps.

4)K1s have a different track so don't get confused with the IR1/CR1 crew (there's more of them). Once you get NOA2, you can call NVC in a week or so for your LGS number. WHen they tell you that they have sent the package to the Embassy, then you can track it on DHL. In about a week after it gets to the Embassy, email or call the Embassy. I called them and they emailed me the interview paperwork and date in a few hours. You can download and start practicing forms DS-156, DS-156K, I-134 (those are the three forms he woudl need though I also sent DS-230 just in case tehy ask for it.

Have him study this chart,

Vaccinations.png

Vaccinations are optional for K1 applicants but if he chose to go with it then he can get the shots in advance and take proof with him to the medical exam. If there's a cost savings.

Good luck.

I and another VJer have an interview next month so I am sure we will give feedback.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Any advice on what the Nigerians requirements about co sponsor everything I can find here has been about Manilla which seems to be a difficult issue for them. Hoping Nigeria is a little more relaxed on this matter. The baby is not included until after birth and since you say any day now it seems that your household size will be 3. Co-sponsors are accepted in Nigeria. Make sure that your fiance studies all the info of the cosponsor and is able to answer questions about them.

2) my fiance's passport was stolen he didnt file a police report when it happened is this going to raise a red flag if he does this now and get his replacement passport? We met up in Europe, other than the pictures and my stamps we have no proof he was there. I havent been back to Nigeria for over 2 years. Was he visiting Europe or did he live there? He will need police reports from every place he's lived since 16.

3) his birth certificate does his mom need to be there to sign or can he just get it on his own?National Population requires a passport pic and notarized affidavit from his father/mother. If someone did something different hopefully they'll let you know

4) Any general tips of what else I can be gathering & preparing while I wait for the letter or baby which one ever comes first.

Congrats on the baby!

Thanks for your response guys. He was visiting europe less than 6 months stay but with his stolen passport its turning into an issue how to prove he was there. I mean my stamps shows I've been there recently. We have pics together, I found some train tickets we used but there arent names on it. I hate this whole thing! Also for interiew times im looking at around Nov? Is that correct? I think I am getting CR procedures mixed up with K1 so maybe its best for me to just wait to get the instructions before making any moves

Hi Gowon, just went through your post on vaccinations. I must have gotten more vaccinations that required. I actually thought Hep A was required. I got Varicella and MMR plus tetanus. I also got typhoid, since i will be going to Nigeria pretty soon. Question is, does getting this shots from your private doc and having a vaccination record in any way reduce the money charged during the compulsory medicals.

It should. The cost is broken down for the medical exam separately from any additional test and vaccinations required.

My Fiancee has her medical record and will present it during the medical. It willbe a tall order if the Doctor find sit necessary to have to give another TDAP adn charge for it.

K1s are not required to have any vaccinations period, so we will not be doing any additional vaccinations at the medical clinic.

Obviously you were together recently and the baby you carry is proof. If they fight you over the fact that there is no proof on his end, you might want to consider DNA testing to prove your case. Yes, it's gonna cost money, but it also costs money to go through the process again.

Thank You I think that is what we will have to do

Congratulations on your approval!

Nigeria does allow co sponsors. This is the link to the embassy website: http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visa_forms.html#k1k2

If you look through the packet requirements for KI visa applicants, it states that to meet the public charge provision of the law, you can have relatives or friends in the United States who will assure your support. I am also using a co sponsor because I am a grad student with no income.

Good Luck!
