We are trying to work out when to put in for my visa. We have to be here till march as baby number 3 is due then. But we want to be in the USA by june/july to get our eldest child settled before starting school.

We are thinking about december to put in for my visa, but what i want to know, is what is involved with the medical?

Obviously i can't do the x-rays, or get any immunisations till the baby is born. What else do they do?

Can i be doing all the other paperwork and have that done, and then when i can just get the medical done.

Do you think we can get everything else done and just wait for me to be able to get the medical done? Is this possible?

WE don't want to wait to late to put in for my visa as i said we want to hopefully be there by June/July.

Thanks

I think you'd be waiting too long to by submitting in Dec.

I'm due in April and have already started. I feel it's best to get the ball rolling now in the earlier stages of my pregnacy so that I can then focus on my baby in the later stages. Nor do you want to have your interview scheduled around your due date.

You don't have to leave the day the visa is issued. I don't see the harm in applying now.

You are looking at approx. two months for DCF in australia if all goes like clockwork, so work around that timeframe.

Since the visa is valid for 6 months, it's not a bad idea to start now.. you're almost in that "6 months before I want to move" window anyway. I dont' know the current Sydney timelines, but you shuiold be able to wrap it up inside of a month (?wildguess).

The medical will take your PGness into account and they will work around it. I do think you can get everything else done now; check the Australia threads for new details.

Hey Wenchie hope all is going well with you these days. Anyway, do you think 2 months is pushing it? I mean, even if someone does DCF during a walk-in in Sydney, the spouse would still need their packets sent to them before they can get any medical check-ups done, and those results can take up to two weeks to a month right? Then by the time they get the results they can finally request an appointment date with Sydney to get the final visa interview which can be another couple weeks from the time they call. So I'm thinking close to 3 months. I'll be DCF'ing at the end of next month so I'll hope that it does work out like clock work and takes two months, my wife is already ahead of the game and got her NPC (police cert) in. She should get that report back in another two weeks or so.

30 November 2006 : DCF. Submitted I-130 Sydney US Consulate "walk-in Thursday". Packet 3 in hand.

11 December 2006 : Final Medical Appointment with Dr Miller and immunizations. Approved.

11 December 2006 : Sent off DS-230 Parts I and II, and DS-2001 overnight priority.

27 December 2006 : Received RFE in the mail, returned RFE same day.

24 January 2007 : New Legislation preventing approvals of I-130s at Consulate.

30 January 2007 : Final Visa Interview in Sydney.

22 February 2007: Sydney called for my wife to send her passport to issue the visa.

04 March 2007: Stephanie flies back to Australia to post her passport.

14 March 2007: Stephanie Recieves passport and visa.

18 March 2007: Stephanie is in Florida. Journey is over.

Doing great here thanks  Hope all is well with you. Your time is drawing near, good to hear.

Whilst you do need the packet with the medical forms etc, you can save time by scheduling your appointment ahead of time. If in Sydney, you could do as I did :P I used Dr Anthony Millar and his receptionist is a lovely lady. I showed up with downloaded copies of medical forms because my packet had been sent to Dan here in the US and it hadnt arrived by time of medical. She told me I can't use them but that she always kept spares on hand  If not in Sydney or you don't want to risk winging it you need to roughly calculate when will have the packet in hand and schedule your medical accordingly. You can also let them know you are ready for the interview before having certain things in hand. If you take me for example as I did CR-1 whereby my interview was already set before they even sent the packet with info re the medical, police report and general interview requirements (packet 4). This is common practice for those doing CR/IR visas. And if you look at those doing K visas they too generally tend to send their readiness for interview before they have everything in hand.

So yes, I do believe it can be completed in 2 months if all goes like clockwork and you use some initiative.

Hi

I know the medical is valid for one year.

If you are also pregnant the x-ray is not necessary.

Besides the vaccinatons and x-ray, it is a routine medical.

You will read the eye chart, doc will do a breast check, and check your back for any moles

tap your knees  it is very basic and nothing to be worried about.

Good Luck!

Anyone in Adelaide, South Australia,

Here are the instructions,

And Doctors Name and Address.

Dear Visa Applicant,

Medical Examination Procedures ‑ American Visa

** PLEASE READ THIS **

The Consular requirements can seem complicated,

but if you follow these instructions exactly, the procedures will be easy.

LEAVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME!

STEP ONE:

Make sure you have:

  • your current PASSPORT

  • three (3) PASSPORT-SIZE PHOTOS

  • your MEDICAL EXAMINATION INSTRUCTION LETTER, which you have received from the American Consulate. Fill in the applicant details under “Section I: Applicant to complete this section.” Do not mark the questionnaire sections.

STEP TWO:

Ring Joan on 8267 5600 (Mon to Wed 9 am to 4.30 pm) to arrange a time to bring all the above items to the following office address:

Dr David Miller

183 Tynte Street, North Adelaide (see map) – 1st floor, suite 8

Appointments (08) 8267 5600 (phone Joan, Mon to Wed 9 am to 4.30 pm)

You will there be given request forms for a chest x‑ray and blood test. If you are over the age of 14 you must undergo a chest x-ray and a blood test for HIV and syphilis. The results of these tests are later forwarded to Dr Miller for review on the day of your physical examination. Be aware that they take up to a week to be received by Dr Miller.

STEP THREE:

Book and have your chest x-ray at the same address. Appointments (8367 4100) are required.

Dr Jones

183 Tynte Street, North Adelaide (same building as Dr Miller) – ground floor X-ray Department.

Appointments (08) 8367 4100

Fee is $60.50 each inc. GST. Provided you book, waiting time is minimal.

STEP FOUR:

Have your blood test. No appointment is needed. Just go with your request form and Medicare card during working hours (to check open times you can ring (08) 8222 3000) to:

¨

I.M.V.S. Laboratory

Corner of Walter and Archer Streets, North Adelaide (see map)

If you bring your Medicare card no fee will be charged. Otherwise there will be a fee. Other laboratories can do the tests instead if you prefer, but they will charge a fee.

STEP FIVE:

Read the immunisation schedule provided. You must have certain immunisations - depending on your age - done or renewed, unless you bring written evidence of past immunisation with your documents. If you believe you are immune but don’t have written evidence, you may in some instances be able to have a specific blood test to prove immunity instead. You will have to pick up a special lab. request from Joan in that case.

Generally if you are aged 18 to 64 you will only need MMR, Td and Varicella vaccines, but do study the full schedule.

Make an appointment for immunisation with:

Dr B J Gilbert

182 Ward Street, North Adelaide

Appointments (08) 8267 3544

There will be a fee. Dr Gilbert will give you a letter of verification, which you must put with your documents.

If you prefer, your own doctor can do the immunisations. You must then get a letter of verification from that doctor.

STEP SIX:

Make an appointment for the medical examination with:

Dr David Miller

Appointments (08) 8267 5600 (phone Joan, Mon to Wed 9 am to 4.30 pm)

183 Tynte Street, North Adelaide – 1st floor, suite 8

No other doctor in S.A. is authorised to perform this examination. Generally an appointment will be available within two to three weeks.

STEP SEVEN:

Keep the appointment. Bring your PASSPORT and all documents. You must bring cash to pay the standard fee for the consultation, as follows:

$140 + $14 GST = $154.00 total (one adult)

$105 + $10.50 GST = $115.50 total (each additional person aged 15 and over in family)

$70 + $7 GST = $77.00 total (each child under 15 years)

FEES MUST BE PAID AT THE TIME OF THE EXAMINATION IN CASH ONLY;

STRICTLY NO CREDIT CARDS, EFTPOS OR CHEQUES.

Breathe a sigh of relief. That’s all. :P

I hope that helps any South Aussies

Cheers

Paul

Wow thats great stuff!

Does anybody from NSW have something similar to that??

I went to my local GP and took a blood test for the chart (to check which things I am immune to) -- but I forgot to ask for a HIV and Syphilis test and for a chest xray. Guess I'll go back...but the nurse, owwws...shes a lovely old lady but she had to stick me with the needle three times before she found the right vein. She did it twice on the same spot - which hurt like a mother...I wasn't afraid of needles but I am now lol.

Hi Elle

Didn't I send you the medical paperwork for Sydney. I know I didn't receive anything like what hampster posted.

I'd leave the chest xray for the day of the medical and the same for HIV and syphillis. You really only need the blood test to check immunity for the others that you require for your age group.

I was lucky the day I had mine done.......I never felt a thing and that was a first for me. The lady was a natural.

Hi Lorelle,

Yeah you sent me the list of docs and the chart...I wasn't sure if we had anything like that for NSW residents.

So Dr. Millar will be the one doing the chest xray and HIV and syphillis blood test?

I finally got the police certificate done...but guess what...my passport got wet!! The side of it at least. Like I need to burn more money. I wonder if I can get away with using it the way it is.

Thanks Lorelle!

From memory they prefer the chest xray and HIV done on day of medical. I did have my HIV done along with the blood tests at my local GP, but I do remember the receptionist at Dr Millars saying something about it. She didn't make me get it again though. She called the pathologist for the results a couple of days later. I think the syphillis is the urine test and needs to be done on day of medical too but I could be wrong with that one  lol

Hi Elle. Sorry to hear the blood test hurt -- I'm a scaredy-cat when it comes to needles at the best of times, so I feel for you!

I had my chest x-ray and HIV/syphillis tests done the same day as the medical, didn't take long at all. The syphillis is also a blood test, but it just means they draw two lots of blood, not two needles (thank goodness)! Hope the person doing it next time isn't so bad...

Not sure about the passport -- is it still all legible?
