I do not know how that would impact a possible future appointment in Guayaquil if the date is set while I am working on a contract.
The lengthy, repeated spans of time that you're spending together bode well for your chances, si man. In regard to the date, if the appointment that you're offered would occur when you're on contract, you can request that it be bumped to a date when you're available.

If the system is the same as when we went through, you'll have to purchase a PIN and phone a special number, wherein some worthless chicas will jack you around for your entire 8 minutes so that they can (I presume) earn commissions by getting you to call back again. It's tough to get appointments EARLIER than the one that they say is available, but it should be easier to get one later.

Whatever it takes, do NOT accept any interview arrangement if YOU cannot be physically present.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Knew that it was this way for tourist visas; great to hear that it's the same for K-1s, si man!

I appreciate the advice, I would also like to say that if anyone plans on staying here beyond the 90 days on a passport, I can help provide information on the 6 month visa. I got approved for a 6 month visa while in the US, the Ecuadorian consulate was extremely nice and the whole office staff very pleasant. But when I got here there was another step to go through that was very complicated. And you cannot get good information anywhere about the process which means once you finally get to speak to someone there will be something else you need which means coming back another day. It took 8 trips total with a lot of frustration especially with the security guards who control who can go upstairs to the visa section, its a long story but hey if anyone needs help I´m an expert in that process now! I still need to learn patience with some of the machismo attitudes of the guards who like to abuse their position of power over others.

It was recommended to me (and this is good advice for ANY embassy or consulate) to play the "USC card": "Senor Guard, the consulate is U.S. soil, and I'm a U.S. citizen. Are YOU a U.S. citizen? No? Well, I am. If you continue to refuse my entry, then immediately contact your highest AMERICAN supervisor to meet with me about it."

It would be great to hear your experiences, as long as we stay somewhat on your original topic. If the discussion gravitates toward procedures for dealing with native consular personnel in general, the topic could fit better in a couple of other forums; if discussion focuses chiefly on Guayaquil, it could fit better in (and could prove to be very valuable within) the "U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador" thread, si man.

thanks, I will keep that in mind. I leave here in 4 days to go back the US, almost 3 months over in a flash! :(

I will get the packet together when I return and keep everyone posted.
