I met my fiancee last November while I was on vacation from serving in Afghanistan. I spent several months with her in Turkey (yes she is Turkish, not an Afghan)when I left AFG. I filed the I-129F and NOA1 was received June 18. Today (Sept. 12)I received a notice the I-129F was approved and notification MAY BE sent to the NVC or Dept. of State. Is this the NOA2? What sort of timeline are we looking at for the interview? This is the actual wording.

On September 11, 2012, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

For approved applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition to the National Visa Center or the Department of State. For denied applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include the processing of an appeal and/or motions to reopen or reconsider and revocations.

Can someone lay this out for me, or send me a link to a thread which will do so?

Much appreciated!!

Yes that is your NOA2 they send it to NVC in a few days you can call NVC to ask for your case number. The normal processing times for NVC are 1-2 weeks. I've seen ppl here at NVC get approved in that time frame and I've seen others waiting for 1-2 months. Make sure you call about your case. NVC can send you a RFE if there isn't enough information but if everything goes well and you do not have an RFE then in 1-2 weeks they will mail the US embassy in the interview country (Turkey) and then it depends on what Turkey does. Chile mails you the Packet 3 & 4 (Packet 4 has the interview date). The interview in Chile usually takes 1 month after your NOA2 approval date. But you should ask ppl from Turkey how long it took them bc after NVC its all in the US embassy in Turkey's hands.

Good luck and congrats.
