I got shuffled to Vancouver from Montreal. Now need to redue everything to make sure I keep Vancouver happy. Does Anyone have a Checklist for the Packet 3 that I will need to do. Is there anything I should worry about? Anything major different from Montreal? Thanks all in advance.

Yeah it's definitely different than Montreal. Having read some of the frustrations people have had going through MTL, the Vancouver checklist seems a lot easier. No online photo uploading or faxing of specific documents - just a checklist saying you have them and one form!

Yes I agree Vancouver will be easier and I know surrey and downtown very well with my 5 years of work. ( I lived in Abbotsford at the time). Did you feel that the Affidavid of support is different? I saw a document that said if I as the beneficary could prove self sufficency and not being a burden I may not need a 134 document. Just wonder if you saw that too?

I just got my Packet 4 in the mail today. Currently waiting on Dr. Cheema to respond to my email for an appointment. We'll see how long he takes (it's been two days so far). I didn't have to send in the affidavit of support, just say that I had one. In my particular situation, I definitely need the affidavit of support. As for you I am not sure. If you were to prove self sufficiency you might have to do it on the I-134 anyway. Plus you can't work right away when you enter so you can't technically support yourself then... not sure. Perhaps someone else will have a better answer. As far as the form goes, I'm pretty sure the form is the same format no matter what consulate one goes through.

Hi VeeNDee... I have an email into the Vancouver Embassay as my fiancee in Westfield Ma is a student and her income is not sufficent and would need a co sponsor for the affidavid if I used one. BUT I worked for a Canadian Bank and have $500,000 in investments and can get my investment broker convert it to a monthly pmt. Plus I have my house tenetatively sold with $220,000 equity as well. So I hope I can prove my own finanes will prove I wont be a burden. I am still researching and hoping to fine something.

thank keep me posted on your medical and interview date too.

In a future form (I forget which one) it has an option to input for assets of the beneficiary that isn't required. I remember seeing that but can't remember where it was. Possibly it was for the AOS step after you enter.

Ok so I did some digging trying to remember what form I saw. Turns out it is on the Form I-864 which we have to file with our Adjustment of Status application. On page 5 there is a section asking about the beneficiary's assets. It says:

The total value of all assets, line 29, must equal 5 times (3 times for spouses and children of USCs or 1 time for orphans to be formally adopted into the US) the difference between the poverty guidelines and the sponsor's household income, line 24c.

I'm not sure how to calculate your assets but the I-864 isn't used for a K1 visa until we file for the adjustment of status and it sounds like you will need the I-134 before that point.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in :)

Here's the Vancouver K1 guide I put together a while ago, you may find it helpful.

I responded to your questions via PM, but I'm not sure whether Vancouver allows self-sponsorship. Hopefully the consulate will e-mail you back or someone else here can answer that for you. As VeeNDee mentioned, you can claim your assets on your I-864 but they usually require 4x the assets (vs. income). I think you will be fine considering you have a substantial amount of savings.

That said, if you are not allowed to self-sponsor for the I-134, your fiancee will need to get a co-sponsor.

Edit: I just re-read P3 and it does say the beneficiary can submit evidence to "prove they will not become a public charge". Perhaps you could fill out your own I-134? Still not sure on the correct procedure to follow.
