I read here on visajourney a story of a Canadian bride, who didn't know that her husband had withdrawn his affidavit of support for her AOS application until she was trying to cross the border (I guess she was traveling from the US to Canada).

How would we know if our USC spouse had secretively cancelled their affidavit of support for our case? We would become illegal aliens without our own knowledge!

that sounds weird.

once the file is received and accepted it can't be cancelled. period.

Nope, I've been reading the posts here and the senior members said the USC can withdraw their affidavit of support at any point prior to the approval of the green card. The thing I'm concerned about is how would we know if they did that and didn't let us know.

You're right. It can be cancelled/withdrawn. I read the post by the Canadian too eh

That person was getting divorced during AOS and left the country on AP, expecting to get back in. Since the marriage was over, coming back in the hopes of getting the GC was just silly all around.

You'd know because your AOS would get denied.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

When you submitted the AOS you got the notice back with a case number. You can always check online or call about the status. If it says post decision activity months ago and you don't have a green card then you are in trouble.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I see. In fact, the Canadian woman in that story said the USCIS never informed her of that.

They would have sent a letter to the address on record. If ex to be got to the mail box first ( or submitted a change of address and redirected it ) that is why you should check up online once in a while especially if you are beyond your VJ estimate.

Yes, that makes sense. No, I don't have any problem with my spouse. We are not going to get divorced either. Was just concerned about the foreign spouses' risks in general.

Just for clarification on earlier posts, the I-864 cannot be withdrawn after the intending immigrant succesfully adjusts status (mentioned on the I-864 form itself). When they become a permanent resident, the obligations on the original sponsor will continue until releasing of that obligation by the situations the instructions mentions.
