‘Anti-Islam’ film spurs U.S. embassy, consulate attacks in Cairo, Benghazi

A lot of questions are being asked about the person behind the film, first reported to be a "Sam Bacile" who claimed in a phone interview with AP that he was an Israeli real estate developer living in California.

However, reporters have been unable to find any trace of "Sam Bacile" or any real estate business belonging to him - he has no official website for his firm, there are no references to any of his real estate ventures, and he has no social media presence. No property listed in his name, no phone, no licenses and no court records. Israeli authorities stated that they have no record of an Israeli citizen named "Sam Bacile."

With a ridiculous script, terrible acting, cheesy chroma-key sets, sound problems and more, the film's production does not reflect even a $50,000 investment, much less the $5 million that "Bacile" told reporters he had received from Jewish donors.

"Bacile" claimed that he hired 45 crew members and 60 actors; however, one of the "consultants" on the film, a Steve Klein, says that only 15 people were involved with working on the film. Klein also claims that he doesn't know much about "Bacile," yet quickly added that the name is a pseudonym. He denied any connection to Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who has threatened to burn Qur'ans. Klein also denied that "Bacile" is Israeli, and also added that the State of Israel had nothing to do with the film.

Klein, by the way, has been identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an "extremist" who has led anti-Muslim protests, as well as protests outside abortion clinics and Mormon temples.

Murkier and murkier.

So we jsut helped free a Muslim county from a brutal dictator. In return Terrorist. launch a coordinated attack against our embassy on the Anniversary of 9-11 and assassinate the ambassador.

The same person who has been telling us all about about what peace loving people Muslims are and how you despise terrorist, is outrage at the maker of a film. I am speechless but not surprised.

Well this has finally changed my views. It used to pi$ me off the way Israel treated Palestinians. Now I could care less about any Muslims in the middle east.

You save a country from a 40 year dictator, and then instead of sending a cake and saying thanks, they send RPGs. All over a bad movie no one would've ever watched. Now they've just guaranteed that millions will see that bad movie.

Time to pull out of Afghanistan and any other muslim countries NOW! Let them go back to killing each other.

Agree. I pretty much learned everything I need to know on 9-11.

You can leave off the personal attacks. Or maybe you can't.

Back to the topic:

(CNN) -- A pro-al Qaeda group responsible for a previous armed assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi is the chief suspect in Tuesday's attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, sources tracking militant Islamist groups in eastern Libya say.

They also note that the attack immediately followed a call from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri for revenge for the death in June of a senior Libyan member of the terror group Abu Yahya al-Libi.

The group suspected to be behind the assault -- the Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades -- first surfaced in May, when it claimed responsibility for an attack on the International Red Cross office in Benghazi. The following month the group claimed responsibility for detonating an explosive device outside the U.S. Consulate, and later released a video of that attack.

Noman Benotman, once a leading member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and now based at the Quilliam Foundation in London told CNN, "An attack like this would likely have required preparation. This would not seem to be merely a protest which escalated."

"According to our sources, the attack was the work of roughly 20 militants, prepared for a military assault; it is rare that an RPG7 is present at a peaceful protest," Benotman said.

"According to our sources, the attack against the consulate had two waves. The first attack led to U.S. officials being evacuated from the consulate by Libyan security forces, only for the second wave to be launched against U.S. officials after they were kept in a secure location."

That analysis is supported by U.S. sources who say the attack on the consulate is believed to have been pre-planned. The sources say the attackers used the protest as a diversion to launch the attack, although the sources could not say if the attackers instigated the protest or merely took advantage of it.

The sources do not believe the ambassador was directly targeted.

Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif, speaking at a news conference in Benghazi on Wednesday, said that "among the protesters, there were some who infiltrated the march to start chaos."

So it looks like somebody knew these clips were about to appear - on the anniversary of 9/11 - not only expecting the reaction, but with plans already in place to exploit the reaction.

How could AQ have known these clips were about to appear ?

There is also the question of who dubbed the clips in Arabic.

There is also the question of who dubbed the clips in Arabic.

Might have been "Sam Bacile," as one of the female actors from the movie who was just interviewed claims he spoke to "dark-skinned actors" on the set in Arabic.

Also:

The 13-minute, English-language trailer was posted on YouTube in July by an account registered to Sam Bacile. The account, which was created in April, lists Bacile's age as 75 and has been used only twice apart from posting the trailer -- once to "like" another video and to make one comment, in Arabic. That comment, which referenced a debate on Egyptian TV over the "Innocence of Muslims" clip, was translated as, "Oh, Animal, it’s 100% an American movie."

It's also possible that Morris Sadek did the translation - from the same article:

The AP also reported that Morris Sadek, an Egyptian-born Coptic Christian in the United States known for his anti-Islam views, said he was promoting the video on his website and on certain TV stations, which he did not identify.

I don't see how this film has anything to do with this? Some Muslim nut in Pakistan can make a porn movie about Jesus having sex with underage children. I doubt you'll see RPGs fired at the Pakistani embassy in Washington..

Exactly.. Why are we focusing on some dumb movie when AQ just killed the U.S. Ambassador to Libya.

Protests have erupted across the MENA region today against the US based "film" or rather Youtube video. They are not only in Egypt and Libya but also Morocco, Tunisia, Sudan, Gaza, Algeria, ect. and several Embassy closures have occurred because of it. I think it's important to know who the film maker is that has had such an explosive affect.

So protest against the filmaker. What the hell does the U.S. govt. have to do with it? There's no logic in that thinking. All you USC females petitioning Egyptian men can forget about that for awhile.

If the filmmaker has contact with AQ and this was a planned and coordinated attack with those in Libya don't you think the Defense Dept would want to know that?

The filmmaker have contact with AQ? That sounds as nutty as saying 9/11 was an inside U.S. govt. job.

The very first post I made about this incident was to condemn it, and I also said that everyone should condemn these crimes. It's right here:

The murder of the ambassador was an atrocity, an unexcuseable crime, and all people should condemn it. Any attacks on embassies are also unexcuseable crimes.

Now, when you have what appears to be a possible conspiracy, the normal response is to investigate it fully. Or did you think that the need to investigate 9/11 was finished when the planes hit, just because the hijackers were all dead ? Did you think there was no need to investigate for collaborators or funders or co-conspirators ? I mean, why focus on some dumb AQ when the hijackers were all dead ?

So protest against the filmaker. What the hell does the U.S. govt. have to do with it? There's no logic in that thinking. All you USC females petitioning Egyptian men can forget about that for awhile.

The U.S. government is already investigating the filmmaker - you can bet on it.

You don't think that there are those inside and outside the US that have contact with AQ and that they aren't still planning and plotting together? How many times a year do we hear about another planned terror attack that has been stopped or prevented or failed within the US? The information surrounding the film maker is still murky and if AQ is involved in the Libyan attack then the Defense Department better get to the bottom of who this film maker is and every little detail about them.

Thanks for making my point. No one here in the U.S. attacked the Saudi embassy with RPGs after 9/11. To even compare some nutjob movie maker with 3000 people dieing is pretty sad comparison.

Once again missing the point. WHO CARES WHO THIS GUY IS? Doesn't make it ok to for a mob to burn down the embassy and kill the ambassador.
