Best hotel to stay in for interview

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to plan how I'll get to Sydney and where I will stay for the interview. No NOA2 yet (hoping sometime in next 4 weeks) but I'd like to decide what I'm doing ahead of time.

Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels close to the embassy?

My Aunt came with me to Sydney for my interview and we shared a room at the Mercure. I recall it was less than $200 for our shared room but can't remember exactly how much it was. I caught a taxi to the consulate in the morning but walked back to the hotel afterwards. It really isn't far from the consulate but I didn't want to risk getting lost. A lot of people also seem to stay at the travel lodge on....Philip street??.. which is also really close.

Thanks Meghan. How much notice did you have for your interview? I'm still debating whether to drive in (it's a 6 hour drive and not sure I want to drive in the city) or whether to fly. Problem is I'll have my 2 daughters with me so flying might get expensive...

Do NOT drive in the city!!! Unless you wanna pay high parking fees and put up with the stress and wait.

There's the free 555 bus in Sydney CBD now, so anywhere CBD is fine, particularly i know there are some hostels near Central Station, so any hotels or hostels near Central/some part of Surry Hills, Townhall, Wynyard, Circular Quay train station is fine, or on George St, Elizabeth St in the CBD is fine.

Pretty much any hotel in Sydney CBD is suitable. The city itself is very easy to navigate. If you want specifics, I would suggest going on Wotif etc etc and looking on google maps to see what is more suitable for you?

It depends on your standards, but I stayed at Base Hostel. You can get a bed in a shared room for about $30. Walking distance to the embassy.

It depends if you don't mind hostels, expect a fair bit of noise and communal showers, but a cheap option!
