Bottomline...the entire situation is sad.Now we see why we cannot have peace in this world. We are all about retaliation.....Now the question is..WHAT IS NEXT??

Retaliation, you're absolutely right! In America some conservatives are pro-life yet advocate for the death penalty. The cliché oxymoron of all! So, how can you be against abortion because God prohibits it, and yet God will accept the execution of a human being as punishment? I will NEVER understand that, other than simple retaliation. Here we call it "justice."

Ok, sure.... that said, it'll be interesting given the killings happened in American soil. The US Embassy is considered America, therefore the killer could be extradited to the US to face justice. Let's see how this plays out.

The purpose of the religiously offensive film is not for the sake of making a film. This is not "art". It is for the sake of inciting anger and violence from the party they have sought out to offend. You can't compare religiously offensive film to porn. I doubt most of these ppl protesting have even seen this film. They are angry over the fact that someone made a film offensive to Islam. Telling them not to watch it isn't going to stop their anger. Just knowing it's out there makes them furiously angry. I understand the anger, I don't understand killing someone over it.

I do understand the making of offensive films, simply because they're meant to be exactly that: films! Not a political movement, not a manifesto, not an instructional video, but a film.

You don't like porn? don't watch it. Some- if not most- find it offensive. People don't go killing others (unless you're simply nuts) over a porn film. We had this discussion with the film "Borat." I mean, the country's people were depicted as..... well, go watch the film. It is offensive and insulting to them, but as far as we know, they didn't go burning flags and killing people. They just filed lawsuits on end and boycotted the film.

That's the problem: religious zealotry. When it trascends to religion, some fanatics go clinically insane to the point of committing a crime of passion. Is that really necessary? That goes to both ends of the spectrum: the conspirators and the killers. It's sad, tragic and I completely unnecessary.

True, but my comment was as a rseponse of 'not understanding why some may do offensive films.' Sure, filmmakers will be 'offensive' often times, for the sake of art. That, I don't mind at all. Yes, I may be able to compare an offensive film to porn.

That said, I agree, this was NOT meant to be an Oscar worthy production. This was the stick used to poke a sleeping bear, period. I was meant to make the nutty religious zealots furiously angry, which is the difference between an offensive film (such as porn) and a religiously offensive piece (be it a film, a photograph or a cartoon). And that, has proven Bacile and Jones right, unfortunately. This is all sad and tragic. They should be charged with accesory to murder.

I hate to admit, I'm more interested to know how this murders will be legally handled- given they happened in American soil.

We're not talking about "some" offensive films here. We're talking about a specific religiously offensive film that has caused so much anger that someone's life is now over. We're not talking about Borat or Deep Throat. The filmmaker knew what he/she was doing when they made this film. They are also to blame for some of this IMO. I liken this to the kid who gets bullied over and over again until he snaps and shoots up a school. Both parties are to blame and the end is tragic and unnecessary.

There is a thread in P and R also on this topic. Link WoM cites a few articles about the Defense Dept. suspecting that it was a planned attack in Libya. I watched a few interview with them and they said they can't be sure yet but it has the hallmarks of al Qaeda. It says an hour before the attack in Benghazi the al Qaeda websites posted video inciting revenge for the killing of one of their leaders in a drone attack and it was having to do with Libya. I'm unclear if that death was in Libya. They are still studying the protests.

Protests against the film have erupted in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Gaza and well all over the region. Youtube was banned in Afghanistan until the video comes down. Which I've noticed the link I provided to the video has been made private and several other videos of clips from the movie have been removed because of the crisis situation emerging.

The Anti-Islam filmmaker is said to have gone into hiding and reporters have been unable to verify any of the information he gave about himself to the news outlets in a telephone interview. There is no record of his real estate business. Very little to no record of him online other than his Youtube channel. No record of him in Israel or in California. We're in the dark here for now.

The Daily Mail also has an article about the same guy with loads more detailed information. They question if the movie is even real or if it was faked since we've only seen 13-14 minute clips of it and it's so poorly done. That and the identity of the maker is in question. Link
