How long for fiance to get US citizenship?

I have learned so much from you guys, thanks! I know that it might take 6 months for your fiance to come to USA after you first file the I-129F application.

My question is now, how long does it take after that for your spouse to become a US citizen? After getting approved for the I-129F, does the spouse have to stay in the USA the entire time in order to become a US citizen? Where can I find the instructions that explain all of this?

Thank you!

She will have to comply with certain requirements in order to qualify for citizenship.

It usually takes more than 6 months to get the I-129F petition approved, interview scheduled, visa approved and in hand ready to enter the US.

They cannot leave the US without filing for adjustment of status and getting Advance Parole(AP) or their green card first. See this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The green card issued will be a 2 year conditional card and you must file for removal of conditions within the 90 days prior to it expiring: http://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide

The permanent resident spouse can file for citizenship after they have been a permanent resident for 3 years and stayed married all those 3 years as well: http://www.visajourney.com/content/naturalization_requirements

Three years after becoming a permanent resident IF still marriwed to the petitioner the SPOUSE and any K-2 children under age 18 at the time the spouse naturalizes can become citizens. She must be in the United States at least HALF the time during those three years with no absences of more than 6 months. There are some exceptions to that BUT that is the general rule. She can apply fr citizenship 90 days before that.

My wife arrived in the USA 4 years ago today and became a citizen on April 9th of this year and we wasted no time in any filings. So it took 3.5 years from the day she arrived and that is about as fast as you can do it. Given 3 years plus time for filings, it would be difficult to do it faster.

Remember, what people are saying is 3 years she is eligible from when she receives her Green Card. This does not mean she will get her Citizenship.

So for that remember after she is eligible, she needs to wait for the interview to happen, she has to pass the interview, she has to wait for the oath ceremony and then she can be declared a citizen. Time frame for the latter half is always different for everyone, maybe a month or two or a lot longer depending on her individual interview, location of the oath (and how crowded or often they do it). There are too many variables to say when she will actually have the official title. But as mentioned by everyone else, she can at least apply 3 years after her GC (well 90 days before the 3 year anniversary)...
