Chevy isn’t losing $49,000 on every Volt it sells, for God’s sake

Well, then everyone seems to be selling discount gas. Shell, BP, Citgo and the rest of the bunch. I've been getting my gas at those stations for as long as I live here. Put close to 200K miles on my last car and never had issues with the fuel injectors. But what do I know?

You know what I am saying. I see folks trying to saves ten cents a gallon by going to an off-brand station. Sometimes it doesn't matter, sometimes it does. Of course, I know of a Shell station that was topping his tanks off with off-brand fuel late at night to compete with the Arco down the road. But, I stay with select brands (Chevron, Shell), and lately, I have been getting good prices (and performance) from Unocal.

The highest I've seen in the city was $4.75vfor premium, at the Shell station in the Upper East Side.

Premium ranges from $4.37 to $4.73 on Gas Buddy. Those are the lowest prices so it seems that they are well in range. Checked out my own zip code just for shits and giggles and those are dead on.

Yeah I get it. It's not worth saving a dime to incur hundreds of dollars in damage. But what I am saying is that I could go and get clearly overpriced gas if I look for it hard enough. Doesn't mean I have to. But if I do, then I've really got nobody to blame but myself.

There's a link in my post above. Check it out. Lowest in Manhattan is $4.05, highest listed there is $4.49.

What can I tell you, dude? Your link is clearly BS. What do you want me to do, scan the receipt?

I thought we had confirmation of premium being available for less than what you quoted. And I checked the site for my area and it is absolutely dead on. But hey, whatever you say.

A paid-for well maintained Honda or Toyota gets decent gas mileage but not a $600/month car payment.

I'll pass on the volt.

Ditto.

Perosonally I would never buy a US-made car. Every US made car I have ever had or ever ridden in has been a POS. It just makes no sense to buy a US made car. I also rarely buy electronics made in the US. Key word... rarely.

Regardless, I'll stick with Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW. I really don't care how much gas costs. I only drive about 1,000 miles/month anyhow.

What does that prove? That you can find a Tesla VIN on the internet. Nothing beyond that, really.

Or the VIN of a Volt. Or any other VIN you care you see.

Maybe place your iPad with this page on it next to the Vin and take a picture with your iPhone, yes?

For top tier fuel? Some of that discount gas ends up clogging the fuel injectors over time.

Define over time.

At last count I've cycled over 125 vehicles though my fleet in 26 years. I've never in my life ever purchased a fuel injector for any vehicle EXCEPT when I am building a hot rod and I need more flow.

Bad fuel causing clogged injectors and changing oil every 3,000 miles are part of the fleecing of America.

 Can't keep them running, eh? Maybe you should use better fuel and change your oil more often.

What are you, fuсking nuts?

You're sitting in Florida by a pool and telling me how much gasoline costs in Manhattan based on some random web site you found when I'm actually *in* Manhattan and can just go outside and tell you how much it costs.

But here, since you don't believe me.

I recall reading that the volt will require a new battery($30k) after only 5-6 years. Who's going to buy one of these second hand?

I saw an add in Sundays paper listing the Volt for $32,000 (after rebate and tax credits). Not sure if it was 2012 or 2013 model. Still, I have a hard time believing $30,000 for a new battery when you could buy a new car for close to the same price.

Who says I don't believe that you bought gas for $4.95 a gallon. I've said all along that I know I can go and get gas for up to a dollar a gallon more than I would pay at most other gas stations.

I come by a gas station every morning on my way to work where I can buy gas for $4.35. I could go there, fill up, post a receipt and then claim that I am paying more for gas now than I ever have before. Only on that same way to work I also come by many gas stations where gas is currently $3.71. That's where I fill up. Call me chaep but that way, I don't have to complain paying the most for gas ever.

Gas Buddy, by the way, is not some random site. It's pretty damn accurate and helps people find lower gas prices in their area. It really works. Maybe you should try it next time before you go fill up. Could save you a few bucks. :)

I will vouch for Gas Buddy. It relies on the reports of drivers that pay the actual price listed. The prices are not always current, but it does give a good idea which stations are giving the lowest prices.
