Thanks. Just read it post the POE it is a good reminder of things need to be done.

But I am still confused, I don't think K1 is immigrant visa thus K1 will have I-94 and have to apply for SSN in the SSOffice. In my wife's case I think she won't need to fill out I-94, and in her DS230 we have checked the box for applying a SSN thus I think we just need to wait a bit right? btw I have read your post below and very helpful

aiyo.

K-1 chasers fill out PART I of the DS-230, not Part II.

True, the K-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa, but it's special, it's with 'immigrant intent'.

So, since it's a non-immigrant visa, the I-94 is required at the POE.

Since it's with immigrant intent, she's allowed to apply for a SSN once here.

Repeat - K-1 visa chasers only fill out Part I of the DS-230. Part II is to be ignored, in toto.

---

wait a mo.

what was the question?

look - no fair being a CR-1/IR-1 and asking questions about stuff in a K-1 visa chaser's topic,

as the flow is different. Docs are different, process is different. Your wife not fill out any I-94, she will have her visa stamped at the airport, turning it into an I-551 document, a 1 year temporary green card. With that, and the passing of 2 weeks, she can get into the SSA office, and get a SSN. Usually

seriously - what was the question?

Aiyo, I'm getting cranky. This is a good sign to take another vacation.

and kudos to you for finding my big honking post about 'how to get a SSN'. Nothing's changed for the process, from the 2 years past that I wrote that.
