Hey, just joined and have a question.

I am a national of Trinidad and Tobago. I work for a company that has US shareholders but operates in Africa where I work on regular rotation. My wife is degree-qualified but does not work (she takes care of our daughter full-time). I was looking into immigrating to the US. Should I apply for a work visa? I have no reason to look for work in the US at this time or not in the near future. Plus i do not want to ask my present company to get involved. If not, what other options are there?

With a work visa, you need a US emplyer to sponsor you, so that seems to be out in your case.

Try the Diversity visa lottery?

As Penguin said you need employer to sponsor you. Second, work visa has nothing to do with immigration. Work visas are temporary by nature and are time limited. You will have to find employer to sponsor you for a green card to immigrate. Join billions out there...
