Jihad for a boy.

One of the female characters in a movie I brought back from Egypt is named Jihad but they don't say it that way... they call her Gihad.

I guess it could be a girl's name too but according to this web site

http://www.muslim-names.co.uk/

it's a boy's name.

"Madhat" means Praise, apparently.

When I saw the name Selma, all I could think of was Marge's sister from The Simpsons.

It's a pretty name though. :)

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

We'll most likely be using Arabic names, but I kind of liked the idea of picking a name using the culture of wherever we are when it was conceived! ;) There are lots of girl names I like, but I'm having trouble thinking of boy names I like. I don't want anything that would be too difficult to pronounce, so that leaves out anything with the "kh" and "gh" sounds (I teach at a school with a girl who pronounces khadijah "ka - dee ja" and boy who pronounces khalil "ka-leel" and I don't like that everyone pronounces it wrong!) I like Adil, but that's about the only boy name I can think of that I like. For girls, there's yassmine, meriem, selma, etc. Girl names are easier I think. Girls can get away with exotic names more than boys.

timeline doesn't matter.

i know this thread is old but i wanted to chime in.

not to share too much personal info but i loved the name aaliyah until i put it with Ali's full name. THat poor little girl would get teased if her names was Aaliyah Ali Ayyat. Say it outloud :D

I have some lengthy pretentious names that im attached to and Ali's face was like

four kids, two boys, two girls

Pelayo-boy layo for short

Ayla-girl

Labayala- boy (though it sounds a bit feminine)

possible Laila for the last girl....I'm obsessed with names with y's

i don't want kids really but if i have one i might as well have four and become a super dedicated mom. :P
