So I filed the petition for my wife back in February and now the interview is this Thursday in Mumbai. The interview letter says nothing about submitting documents to VFS prior to the interview date. However, I called the consulate help line now and the VFS employee said that documents need to be submitted at least 4 working days before the interview.

We have not done that. There is no mention of this requirement on the NVC interview letter. So what's going to happen??

U will be in a big trouble now that u have not submitted all ur docs including copy of Interview letter at VFS before ur Interview....More problematic is that u hav posted this jus before 2 days of ur scheduled Interview date...if u would hav posted this a week before u must hav got ur answer very soon...Now its too late.....

It is a must to submit ur Interview letter and other Docs before ur Interview so that the consulate will confirm ur appointment indicating that u will be attending that...Now that they may cancel ur appointment....I'm not sure but there is a possibility of this...

One thing u can do is go in person at ur nearest VFS center where u live and talk to a supervisor....they will guide u what to do next...I will suggest dont wait a single minute...go immediately today before VFS closes..and if not than tomorrow mrng as soon as VFS opens....

Thank you for your response. My wife and father-in-law are traveling to Chennai overnight and then flying to Mumbai a day ahead of the interview and will go to VFS immediately. I just wish there was from input from other people who have been in a similar experience (I gotta believe there are some).

Thank you. The matter is all the more complicated by the fact that immigration visas are no longer processed in Chennai. Mumbai is so far away from my wife's place. Anyway thanks for your input and I'm praying that everything will work out smoothly.

Hello everyone,

Now that the drama is over, I'd like to give an overview of what happened in regards to my wife's situation.

She went to the consulate on the day of the interview with copies of her documents in-hard and the originals already at the consulate (sent via NVC). As I stated before, we were unaware and were not made aware of submission of docs to VFS 4 days ahead of the interview.

My wife was asked 'Why didn't you submit the documents to VFS prior to interview.' She explained that we were unaware and said it wasn't stated on the interview letter. The VFS rep at the counter said, 'I'm going to have to reschedule you,' but before my wife could reply, the VFS person went and talked to somebody else and said 'We're going to do the interview today.'

My wife attended the interview, was told by the U.S. consular officer that the visa was approved and it would arrive in apprx. one week.

YAYYYYY! Drama over, right?

Nope.

When I called VFS the next day to find out when the visa would arrive at her home in Tamil Nadu, they said, it's not coming up in the system and stated the courier fees have not been paid. THat's because when my wife went to the VFS center a day before the interview, she was told they cannot accept anything because it has to be done 4 days in advance.

But hearing the consular officer saying 'everything's done' made us think just that. However, it was a mistake on my part to not ask my wife to check with VFS before leaving Mumbai whether everything is in order.

Multiple calls to VFS about 'Can my wife pay the fees in Chennai?' or 'Can someone go and submit the payment on our behalf in Mumbai?' were answered with 'Sir you have to send an email to the HelpDesk, they will get permission from the consulate so you can pay the fees. Of course, they like to take their jolly-old time and I didn't get a reply back yet!

At this point, I'm like whaddaaa eff is going on? I need permission to pay $7, so my wife can get her already-approved visa???

My wife went to Chennai and waited for hours on end after being told by the HelpLine she could pay the fees in Chennai. The Chennai VFS people said that they don't accept payment for immigrant visas. Finally, after being there for some time, a higher-up person at VFS accepted the payment.

My wife received the documents on Tuesday and will be coming to join me next week!

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ!

I hope this experience helps somebody else, but funny thing is I'm reading there is a new procedure in which you just submit the stuff 30 minutes before the interview.

Hmmm...that's convenient! LOL!

Thanks you all for your help and encouraging words!
