Police certificates

We've received an NOA-1 but not an NOA-2. My fiance is starting to collect the information she'll need for her visa interview. We've seen in Internet guides that police certificates are only necessary for places the beneficiary has lived longer than 6 months since the age of 18. But we haven't found this is any of the official USCIS documents. (But maybe it's coming from the consulate later.)

Could anyone advise us on the rules?

I believe it is asked for on your packet 3 checklist from the Consulate/Embassy. It is required for all non-USA places she has lived for longer than 6 months since she was 16

Carrie is correct that they are asked for on the check-list from the Embassy.

In the case of Brussels, their website states that they require "Police Certificates from all places lived since age 16".

You might want to find someone else who went through Brussels and find out the exact requirements, because each Embassy has it's own little set of rules. They also send out special instructions to the applicant that tells them where to go and what they need in order to get their police certificates, such as passport, photos, etc.

It will come from the Embassy on the checklist, but I would try to gather it as soon as possible if you can. In the UK they can take up to 40 days to issue your police report to you. If you wait until you receive the checklist, it could be very close to your interview date.

I can't help with your specific question, but try to get the police report as soon as possible.

yes it is definitely 6 months or more that you have to get a police certificate for.

wow I guess it really varies - in the UK they don't require you to get a police cert unless you have lived somewhere other than country of birth for 12 months since the age of 16

Source: Police certificates are required for each visa application aged 16 years or older. A separate certificate is required from the police of each country in which the applicant has lived for twelve months or more after the age of 16; the period is six months if country of birth or current residence. This certificate must cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in that area or country and state what the appropriate police authorities records show concerning each applicant including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each case of which there is a record.
