Alla often makes the same remarks. "I grew up in communism and now I am supposed to VOTE for it here?"

Si man (sigh, man), but here's why. The USSR was godless, but we can mix Church & State here, and 0bama is the Messiah.

It is not a coincidence I believe that so many of the "conservative" VJ members are married to spouse from former communist "utopias". The RUB members are overwhelmingly conservative and I absolutely do not think it is a coincidence. (James, James & Olya, is our token liberal but at least he is an intelligent one, RUB women are not attracted to stupid men)
Interesting take. I rarely agree with what James writes, but he's unquestionably highly intelligent and refreshingly literate.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

No-one knows what that is. You can keep joking about it, but the joke is lost on 90% of Americans.

The truth doesn't matter anymore. We're already living in an idiocracy where people

respond to sound bites better than facts. Americans have no patience for anything

long-term, only instant gratification in tweet-time of 140 characters or less.

This is why the Democrats are going to lose.

Just because you want 0bama to lose doesn't mean he is going to.

Bush policies on steroids is not the answer!

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

James is not a Kool Aid drinker. I could easily spend the day fishing with James, either in the UP where he is from or Vermont, debate the issues while catching the local trout and have a great day. I doubt he would spoil a walk in the woods with my shotgun either.

A RUB woman wouldn't give the time of day to the typical kool aid drinking, brain dead liberal

By reading the opinions of many here I find it fascinating, that some immigrants have absolutely no idea how the American system works.

I think that the one thing that you can't change is the frame of mind of those who grew up in these countries with all the anti-American propaganda, not unlike those who suffer from PTSD and react to the sound of an engine backfiring.

It is really sad that in their attempt to emulate that which they consider American, the are embracing all the fascist characteristics that the Soviet regime imparted on the block, as being the true American values they sought to eradicate.

Paraphrasing on the adage, I will quote my friends from Russia who say, in jest - and yet so aptly - you can take tovarich out of USSR but you can't take USSR out of tovarich.

USSR was the polar opposite of fascism. I invite you to any large city in the former USSR on May 9th if you do not believe it.

My wife is hardly "anti-American"

Electing a Muslim doesn't seem to bother them.

Religion is no deterrent to anyone holding public office in the United States.

Indeed, recently Michele Bachmann made a fool or herself and her TB ilk by suggesting that an American had connections with terrorists simply because she is Muslim.

What does someone's religion have to do with their ability to hold public office?

In the case of Obama, the issue is not his religion so much as the color of his skin that has left many feeling unsettled, IMHO.

As much as I'd love to believe that isn't true, it probably is.
