Verifying Employment with Intent to Return Home

Just a quick question. I am traveling to the UK on vacation for a couple of weeks to visit my fiance, and then I'm coming home. I've heard it is a good idea to carry a letter with a business letterhead from your employer with you for immigration. This will be my second time going. The first time I didn't have any documentation with me, but after a lot of questioning and bag searching they finally allowed me to go through the border. I've also heard that since I've already been once and returned when I was suppose to that I shouldn't have any issues like before. Just wondering if it would still be a good idea to take the employment letter stating that I am employed in the US and my employer expects me back to work on this specific date, or is it really not necessary since I have already been and returned when I was suppose to? Also, if I do take a letter, do I just volunteer it to them, or don't present it unless they ask about my job again?

It is always a good idea to carry documentary proof of your situation whenever you are requesting something from a Government agency - in this case British immigration. Their job is to protect their country from interlopers and those who may violate their laws and regulations. Your job is to reassure them that you are 'safe' and will observe their laws and regulations. Having proof of your intent and requirement to return home after a visit counts as part of that reassurance. Your 'history' with immigration also counts, so this will add reinforcement to your currently 'good' standing.

Have you filed for a visa yet? I actually brought copies of the paperwork with me. They didn't look at it, but when we started discussing the fact that a US visa was pending they let me straight through.

We are in the K-1 visa process now (petition waiting period with VSC). So I could do that actually.
