Biometrics twice?

Hello,

I wanted to get some clarification regarding the AOS step by step guide that’s here on VJ. Under the

“After Filing: What to do?” part of the instructions, it says:

“In most cases, your spouse will get their Employment Authorization Document approved and issued in 45 to 90 days. During that wait you will be called to a local USCIS biometrics office to have your fingerprints and photos taken for the EAD.

….then further down it says….

"Your spouse will be required to have biometrics taken at some point for their AOS application which includes fingerprints and photos. This can typically precede the interview date by up to 15 months, however is usually much closer.”

So does that mean biometrics have to be done twice? Can someone please clarify? I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.

The biometrics for the AOS are not the same as those for the EAD. If you apply for the EAD you will have separate biometrics for it.

So, yes you will have both if you apply for the EAD. Sometimes they can be accomplished with 1 visit.

Newer scheduling processes actually attempt to capture both biometrics with one visit.

My appointment notice quotes the application numbers for both my AOS and EAD, so apparently it is possible to do both at the same time.

By the way - they already got my fingerprints at the embassy and several times at POEs. Why on Earth do they need to do it again - I have no idea.
