That is crazy!!! I don't know why I need to make wedding such a big deal. It is just a way to extend our relationship as bf/gf. We live our life the same way as before. This might sound naive but really reflect what I think.

Exactly, our life is just the same as before. We never wanted a massive wedding because im not the dress type of woman to start with! But we now all have the same name (not even an issue in lots of relationships but i like it) and we are able to be in the same country together. Your life afterwards wont be determined by what kind of wedding you have.

We had a small ceremony at the Marriage Beaureu, brought the iPad and had a video call with my in-laws and the rest of her family. Everybody that we invited was there, it meant a lot to us. Then we went out to take pictures, we had a great time. One of my friends was honored to be our photographer. And then we had a small reception at my house.

We only invited who we wanted there. I have a big extended family, but there was no way in hell I would spend more money on people I barely see, so when my parents asked if I was inviting them, I said no very firmly and that was that. My parents know me to be very head-strong and wouldn't bow to other people's whims, even theirs.

Make sure to not let your family get the best of you. Yo do what you want and be strong.

Im in the same situation as everyone else here, of course, and I dont have 3 months to plan a wedding, ive had ever since my Fiance asked me to marry him.

We have already found a venue for the ceremony and reception, which includes catering, that is allowing us to set a date and change it one time if it needs to be. There is estimated times you will all have thought about for when your visa may be approved, you can then figure out a wedding date from that.

Another thing is, once the visa is approved, dont forget the visa is good for 6 months until you enter the US. Which is also plenty more time do sort things out.

I know what style I am looking for in my flowers and other decor, I know what style of cake I want and I have researched photographers i like, and once my visa is approved I can book these things, and give them a proper wedding date which are all things that are easily done within just a month..

The family that means something to me are willing and able to attend my wedding. I will get my visa approval and arrange a wedding date for around 2 months after that. 1 month after visa approval I will travel to the US. 2 months is plenty of time for my family to arrange travel time off from jobs etc.

A lot of you act like you need to quickly marry in a courthouse and then have this fake wedding after. But having one wedding is totally doable, because I am.

The faster we get married the faster we can start on the AOS ! I know family is important but not to the extent of them deciding how and when you should marry...

Your wedding - your day - for both of you. Do it the way you two want.

And it's not a fake wedding, if you do the big event a year later, it's a rededication of your vows.

Oh I know, they arent deciding any part. im deciding I want to marry in a different country, and the ones that want to attend are obviously fine with that, im only waiting a month afeter approval so i can get cheaper plane tickets and then having the wedding a month after i enter to US so we can have time to sort things like getting rings, decor, going to arrange flowers with the florist.

I know this. I said the word fake because in the other wedding thread lots of people said they were having a courthouse wedding and then a real wedding after, I told them the courthouse would be their real wedding and anything after is a vow renewal but they didnt seem to like it! :) I just hope anyone doing it that way lets all of the people they invite know that they are already married!

My wife and I eloped at a picturesque B&B in the Texas Hill Country (it turns out that a lot of B&B's in the state offer packages for this type of thing). I'd just started a new job and didn't have much time off, so we drove up on a Friday, got married Saturday and came back Sunday. It worked out great and the pictures we got weren't bad.
