Anyone else have a loved one who's deployed? I wanted to start a thread to talk about the stress of dealing with deployment, care packages, immigration issues etc.

PLEASE REMEMBER OPSEC!

I'll start!

Hubby is deployed for a year and I am 18 wks pregnant. He will be missing the birth. :( I am filing ROC this March without him.

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

PS. Those with deploying loved ones welcome too! Sometimes predeployment is harder than the deployment

Hi there! :) Don't stress too much it won't do good on your baby!

I know deployments are pretty hard. I've been in more than 7deployments with my fiance for the past 2years. Lucky for us now, its over, well actually for just 3years he'll be on shore duty. After that we don't know if he'll be going on sea duty again or get out of the service. But that's enough time to settle with the marriage and family. Sometimes, it feels like I'm used to deployments and all those stuff that comes with that. But every deployments comes differently. The last one we had was really painful and hard for me. We were having problems. One after another. But we made it through.

I've experienced watching the news 24/7 because he went on deployment when North and South Korea was on the brink of war. Then the tsunami and earthquake in Japan happened which forced them to evacuate. The day Japan was hit by the earthquake I was buying my plane tickets going to Japan. After that, everything went blank. We kept on hoping that everything will go back to normal and when it finally did. I didn't waste anytime and immediately flew to Japan to be with J and look after him since it really did affected most of them. No electricity, military family members esp the kids were forced to leave Japan and only servicemen were left to help with the search and rescue. I remember they called it as Operation Tomadatchi. And one time I visited him during his liberty call in Singapore. We were supposed to be together for 3 days. It got cut off. Thailand needed their help and they were immediately recalled. hehe. Military life it is!

Anyway, I've found this amazing blog about military spouses. Thought you might want to read it.

You're strong. You and your baby will be more than alright.

Smile. Its good for the baby! :)

7 deployments in 2 years? Are you sure those weren't TDY's?

It was more of a patrol cruise that they do with WESTPAC for 2 years and some were conducted in South America. He was stationed in Japan. Sea deployments. That's what he and his friends would tell me before going on board.

Each deployment he goes to would last 3-4 months with about 2-3 liberty calls. Twice a year. He's an Air Framer for 2 years with the USS GW.

We've been together 6 years and out of those, my hubby has been here with me, maybe - 3 years total. He deploys often, sometimes w/o any advance notice. But, I knew I was marrying someone that was in the military sooo I just had to learn to be ok with it.

We make up for what we miss while we are apart and when he's gone, I get to be independent me (which I love) so it works out very well for us. It's kinda like we are perpetual newlyweds lol.

Im glad you are handling it so well! Unfortunately I make an awful military wife, I think. I am not independent and with me being pregnant and away from my parents too, its really hitting me hard :( One year seems so long. :( Im so used to being part of a team, I hate being alone. I feel so isolated and bitter. Pregnancy hormones dont help. Even though Im in school full-time, I just feel like a zombie thats going through the motions :(

Find the FRG rep for your husband's unit and start going to the weekly/monthly meetings. You'll be able to find other wifes that are going thru the deployment, probably going thru the same feelings & emotions you are feeling. Plus you'll make a cpl of friends that know exactly how you feel.

It's difficult enough to spend time apart w/o having to be stressed too. Also, I volunteer at my local USO. When single soldiers come back and no one is there to greet them, I am a stand in hugger lol. I know that even when I am sad, or lonely, or upset - if I pass that along to my hubby it makes *his* job (wherever he is) that much more difficult. I know that he told me once how grateful he is that everytime he calls me I'm not crying.

It seems like a long time (believe me, my hubby has been deployed, or training, or schools) more times than I can count and of course sometimes I get lonely too. I just keep as busy as I can and before I know it, it's almost time for him to come home.

We are in the guard so there are no weekly/monthly FRG meetings. Never actually met them since we are all over the state. But its ok I have my civilian friends, although they dont really understand what i am going thru they are still sympathetic

I would like to thank all of you as military spouses, for your dedication and sacrifice. My husband is now retired now, but I still think of all the men and women who put their lives on on line for this country. You as spouses here have to deal with another type of battle, the day to day battle of everyday living and sometimes that is as hard as serving overseas. And for that I would like to thank you for being strong in this hard time, my hats off to all of you. THANK YOU
