Hello,

I am new here and I hope to get an insight on my issue from you guys

I came to the US and obtained GC based on marriage to my US wife. I removed conditions and have my 10 GC already.

My wife was married 4 times before, one of her husbands got a GC through her, but we did not have any issues because of that at any stage.

We filled my N-400 and it was sent in August already. I found out from my wife later she was married to her first husband twice, the second time was a kind of giving him a chance to prove he changed since he was gambling with almost every penny he made. He did not really change and marriage was terminated only after 9 month.

So, all the immigration papers we filled was based on the fact she married 4 times, but when including this second marriage, she has been married 5 times before. She did not include this marriage saying it was from the same man and so breif so she did not count it as a marriage.

I contacted USCIS and was able to get an immigration officer who told me to go a head and correct it at the interview which I will do for sure.

My question is, from your experiences with different situations, is there a possibility that I will get denied or my case will be delayed as a result?

Thank you everyone.

It was an honest mistake from your part as your wife assumed that since it was with the same man. The IO will go through your application with you & you are given a chance to make any corrections or additions if there are any. You can then hand in the divorce decree to the IO.

During my interview I had to explain to the IO that I forgot to include another organization that I was a member of during my college years. She was appreciative of my honesty about it.

So I think you'll be fine & I doubt you will be denied.

You should be fine. You told the truth as you knew it when you filed. You have since learned something new that your wife hadn't told you. She is still divorced from that prior husband so your eligibility is still valid. Explain at the interview what happened and hand in that divorce decree as well. It is unlikely that this information would have made a material difference in your wife's sponsorship of you which would have been the real concern. Good luck at the interview. :)

You should be fine. It would caused problems during ROC or before that. Not that I am judging, but if I was the IO, I would have raised an eyebrow with 4/5 previous marriages. Good luck!

I have been questioned about this in the embassy, and I even questioned my own wife before marrying her, and her answer was convencing to me as it was in the embassy, she came from a chrisitian religious family and did not believe in living with someone as a boyfriend specially she has kids and always like to show them the right thing to do, so she was getting married. But she had a very bad luck with almost all of them between gambiling, cheating, and drugs.

I appreciate all the responses and any others are welcomed.

Thank you everyone for your responses.

In your opinion, do you think that my case requires hiring a lawyer to attend my interview with me??

May be I am looking to it with a great deal while its not. I am totally clean. registered for selective service on time, changed my address with USCIS when I moved on time, no criminal record at all, not even minor offenses. nothing, and have tons of joint accounts/credit cards/joint leases/joint taxes/joint insurance/joint vehicle titles and we are living together since I came here and till now.

But, I am kinda of over-concerned person and I do not know what to do or how to be more calm but what I know sure is that I want to get my citizenship cz I know I deserve to have it since I chose to.

I really appreciate all what you say or advise me with.....

waiting to see your ideas.. my interview is after almost two weeks from now.

You should be ok , it will also depend on the way you will represent this to the officer. I see that you took steps to inform the USCIS about the new information you have, get to your interview, once started, tell the officer " I have new information that I would love to disclose in my N-400, and the officer will decide to start with going through your form and add the new information or test you first and then go over the form. Either way, you should have the opportunity to add it.

I do not know about lawyers, it seems to me not a big deal if you represented the issue professionally and in a timely manner, I have a similar issue for someone I know, they did not get interview date yet, so I am eager to see more comments on that subject or similar ones.

Good luck
