Documents for K1: "Birth Certificate" VS "Certificate of Live Birth"

Hi all,

My American fiance got noticed by the NVC that our I-129F petition is on its way to the Consulate in my home country, so I've started gathering the documents I need to bring to the Consulate for the interview.

Among other things, I'm going to need his US birth certificate (original or certified copies). What he has is called a "Certificate of Live Birth". It seems to report all the info they want to see (his date of birth; names of both parents; annotation by the appropriate authority indicating that it is an extract from the official records). It is headed " ******* State Board of Health" and certified as the true and exact copy of the record on file in the Health Dept of the County he was born.

Our questions are:

1) Is a Certificate of Live Birth equivalent to a Birth Certificate in the US?

2) Can I use it for my interview?

3) How do you get certified copies of it?

We had this doubt while preparing documents for the petition too, but he got around it by submitting all pages in his passport instead.

Thanks for helping! :)
