*rings the "No EAD!" bell*

Really, don't mind me, USCIS--give me the EAD after approving my residency...

But yeah, interview is Nov. 26th, and so far there has been no movement whatsoever. We're very glad no RFEs have come our way (I'm paranoid that we might get it any day between now and the 26th). Going to compile copies of our original application packets this weekend and add in some more current evidence. I'm dealing with PhD applications right now too, so our plate is more than full.

Your chance of getting a RFE before your interview is very very slim....If your case is straight forward, don't even think about getting one at the interview.....

@Newbie608: Do you say it's slim because there's so little time between now and the interview? Our case is, to the best of our knowledge, pretty straightforward, but reading all the stories here, one never knows! We're definitely doing our homework for the interview.

@femery: I've been in the States for almost a decade (Christ, that's pretty amazing to consider...) so I don't have to worry about the SSN. The EAD would've really helped me not appear like a jobless hobo, but...oh well.

This brings up an interesting point, though. I've not visited India (my birth country) since coming here. While I have perfectly valid reasons (can document financial crunch, and round trip tickets are quite expensive...and I've basically moved from college to job to graduate school to now...), do you think they might raise eyebrows at this?

  • 08/19/2005 – Entered U.S. as student. F1 visa, D/S.

  • Late, late 2007 – Met M (on a Harry Potter fan chat of all things. Curiously, neither of us are big HP fans.)

2009 – Graduated, awarded post-completion OPT (1 year).

2010 – Began M.A. program.

2011 – Graduated, awarded post-completion OPT (1 year).

06/25/2012 – Marriage.

09/7/2012, Day 1 – AOS filing delivered, signed for by J. Chyba.

09/11/2012, Day 5 – Received NOA1 for all three forms filed via text message, with hard copy to follow.

09/17/2012, Day 11 – Received NOA1 hard copies for all three forms and received biometrics appointment [10/4/2012].

10/4/2012, Day 28 – Completed biometrics.

10/20/2012, Day 44 – Received text notification of interview appointment [11/26/2012].

10/22/2012, Day 46 – Received hard copy notification of interview appointment [Holtsville field office, 11/26/2012].

11/26/2012, Day 81 – Interview completed. EAD and I-485 card production ordered same day. I-130 no change.

12/03/2012, Day 88 – Received EAD and Permanent Resident Card (green card). Resident since 11/26/12.

11/25/2014, ROC filing submitted via Fedex overnight to Vermont Service Center (I-751 + supporting evidence).

11/26/2014, NOA receipt date.

01/09/2015, Completed biometrics.

08/03/2015, Received RFE, deadline to respond Oct. 29.

10/28/2015, Sent off RFE response via Fedex overnight.

11/13/2015, Received I-551 stamp in Manhattan field office, validity 1 year.

Update: I just got a text/update saying my EAD has been sent... better late than never right..

I dont think so, since as you said it yourself, you were spending your big bucks with school so they know it would be hard to go back to India...

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I noticed there are 2 kinds of messages:

On whatever date, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you.

And:

On whatever date we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days.

Maybe they tell you they're working on your card and then they tell you they're mailing it to you? just guessing..

haha if you think about it, we're still in the same boat, given the fact that they're only notifications so far..

Quick question: to apply for SSN I'll need only the EAD right? I do have my I-94 but it expired...

I hear you @ SandyM :) about all these notifications. It's indeed very sporadic that you see some who even filed later got them. Anyway, we're still optimistic. Like you said, SSN and drive's license issues are not concerning to me either, but it would have been nicer to see some progress. Good luck to us all on this long journey.
