hi everyone, i am just preparing some documents needed in the future for our K1 visa...

A. police clearance - countries lived for 6months or is it a year? a bit confused here...worked in Dubai for almost 4yrs, worked/stayed in singapore from july 5,2010-feb 4, 2011, then migrated here in Canada as pr til up to date.

question 1: can i rely on the reciprocity schedule as stated on the website stating:

"Police Records

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. When appearing to request a police certificate, the applicant should provide recent photographs, a letter from the requesting authority, the date of residence in the emirate, and their passport.

Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE."

question 2: will i be needing a police clearance from singapore as well?

thanking you guys in advance...

if you stay OVER six month in a particular country then you need a police clearance/police certificate there

but keep in mind NOT all country let you get police clearance UNLESS you still THERE personally otherwise you don't need it...USEM-Manila are aware of those certain country like saudi/UAE. my fiance he used to work there too. we even email UAE embassy to request. but because his no longer a residence/worker there...NO WAY you could get one

yes you need one for singapore..you stayed there for over 6months.

If you live outside Singapore

Applicants residing overseas should submit their applications, including all of the supporting documents listed above, by mail to:

Head Criminal Records,

CID (COC Office)

Blk D Police Cantonment Complex

#02-07/08

391 New Bridge Road

Singapore 088762

E-mail: SPF_CID_COC@spf.gov.sg

Website: www.spf.gov.sg

For Non-Singapore Citizens

A COC request letter along with a COC Appeal Application Form will be sent to you by the Immigration Office after reviewing the application. You are required to complete the COC Appeal Application Form, plus a COC Application Form that you may obtain from the SPF website (please see address above). Once you have completed the forms, provide the required supporting documents listed above, and submit in-person or by mail to the COC Office. Please note that the Certificate of Clearance (COC) will be mailed directly to the Canadian immigration office requesting the certificate.

I read you can get it online now from outside the UAE:

Applying from outside the state

Getting the finger print from police department and attested from U.A.E embassy where the applicant lives

Passport photo copy of applicant with previous visa

The application send to Abu Dhabi police head quarter P.O 253 finger print department.Abu Dhabi police.Abu Dhabi

The certificate will be sent through air mail to applicant

Arabic language certificate cost 80 DHs(50 certificate fee + 30 DHs fee of fast mail)

100 DHs Extra fee for accreditation and translation to English.

Policies can change and the Department of State reciprocity table can be slow to reflect that but seeing as the online application process in Abu Dhabi was enacted in Fall of 2010 http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/abu-dhabi-police-begins-online-service-to-issue-good-conduct-certificate-1.719291 I don't think it is something you need to worry about.

I also think you need a Emirates ID card to do this process and if you were in Dubai more than 4/5 years ago you most likely won't have this. Not to mention the fact that you were in Dubai and typically you should get your clearance from your emirate of residence. Dubai doesn't list a way to get the clearance from outside of the country. http://www.dubai.ae/en/Lists/HowToGuide/DispForm.aspx?ID=30

If you are worried bring the print out from the Department of State website to your interview and show that to the IO. Usually that is enough to persuade them that the requirement should be waived - if it even comes up. Anecdotal evidence here on vj also shows that the police clearance from UAE will not be necessary if you are no longer residing there.

I dont' believe you need Dubai because you can't get it easily from outside the country. My fiancé was in Kuwait and it was the same thing, not possible to get after you've left the country.

Singapore you will absolutely need however, so get started on that one even while you research Dubai.
