I should clarify: where I am now is not so expensive. The cost of living is reasonable. Where I'm from (Ottawa, Canada) it get can quite expensive.

Just comparing that area to where I am from the median house price is still close to $170,000 less.

And I thought this thread was about the cost of living in the US, not Canada.

Either way, sorry for derailing the thread, I was just trying to express how lucky we are to have such fantastic house prices and the opportunity to have such a high standard of living on much less money than needed where I am from.

Thanks for enlightening me a little bit , Evylin

Okay, I think you've gotten confused somewhere in my line of posting. I simply said that I come from an expensive city to live in. Me coming from an expensive place to live in does not mean that I think Americans should feel lucky about their cost of living, because they still struggle. A lot.

Anyway, nevermind.

There's nothing country specific in the thread title, everyone can share their thoughts and experiences. :D

You quoted a US source, about the US housing market, In the US. Sorry for being presumptuous.

No, I think that. Think you got confused with what I said.

The point:

The cost of living in the US is less than I am used to. I feel lucky. I think it is great!. It is something I found to be thankful for about the US.

I wont post again. I really have derailed this thread.

 I know you think that. I was disagreeing with you.

I found this article while researching the tax info of 1957 from another thread. This is quite an eyeopener how times have changed, especially our spending habits. It's a good read.

More made up bull feathers from the left. The average price of a new home in 1957 was about 14,000-15,000 dollars. Which is about 4 times the average salary. Avg home prices today about 210,000 depending on where you live. Avg Salary today about 42,000. Yes a little more difference in base salary and home prices difference but as the number grows so does the difference. Statistically very little difference.

There's nothing country specific in the thread title, everyone can share their thoughts and experiences. :D

Actually there is something very country specific in the article and in what you posted..

"""Here comes the statistic I have been leading up to all this time. In 1957, the average price for a house in the United States was $2,330. """

 I know you think that. I was disagreeing with you.

I don't think you can disagree with someone's feelings.

You may think the standard of living is not high and people here aren't lucky so you can disagree there. BUT I FEEL LUCKY! and you can't disagree with that :) Kinda like someone who could afford a 700ft home and then was offered a 4000ft home for the same price, how lucky!

I am happy. I feel lucky. That was my point and I honestly feel you are just trying to be argumentative or something similar.

I understand people here struggle, people struggle everywhere! BUT I feel lucky for MY situation:D I cannot help everyone or control their situations!

I know I said I will stop replying, so I really should!

Good luck, have a lovely day and sorry you don't feel lucky to have low housing and living costs compared to where you are from, though I can't see why you wouldn't feel lucky for that :)

That's ok, it happens. :)

Maybe if you included something from anywhere else in the world or anyone posted anything about anywhere else in the world I may have seen it differently :)

Have a great day too :)

I am lucky to be in the area I'm in, apparently. We bought a house in 2010. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 car garage, single family home for $145k.

Can't imagine paying 400k for it.

We bought a house last year. 2 wooded fenced acres of land. 3 bedroom 2 bath, 2 car garage, Deck with hot tub, and a 800Sqft separate apartment that rents for 550.00 per month... 146,000

Which goes to show, just cause people make more in Blue States does not mean they live better.

You're correct, the article is specific to the US, the thread title is not however which is what I said. Geez, what did you eat a bucket of balls for lunch?

The cost of living in and around the big cities on the east coast is ridiculously high. I live about 2.5 miles from Boston, the closer one gets the higher the cost of living.

That's cause you are all supporting the Nanny States up there and on the west coast. Move South

Okay. The only reason I responded was because you did not come into this thread saying you feel lucky. You came into this thread saying Americans should feel lucky. And that's what I disagreed with.

I doubt it.

I'd love to stay and play semantics with you, but it's Miller Time on my little place of the planet! Cheers!
