Hello, I moved from Ontario to Chicago exactly a year ago. Not sure why I haven't yet, but I think it's time to get my Illinois drivers license.

I did a search about if I have to do a drivers test in this state, since I have a Canadian license. I fond this...

Just wanted to inform people that Canadians DO NOT have to take a driving test when applying for an Illinois Driver's license. Canadians are seen as "out of state" drivers, so just a written and vision test is required. I know this varies state to state, but good info either way.

Just want to get a confirmation from somebody if this is still accurate. My Ontario license expires 2014, so it should be ok.

Thanks

You have to do the written test which takes all of 15 minutes its a multiple choice test. You cannot simpley exchange one licence for another. On a side note they gave me back my Ontario licence so i was able to send it back to Ontario and get a refund.

Yeah, I figured you have to do the test. Interesting about the refund for your Ontario license...

well i had only had it for a year before moving, and it was the woman at the ontario dmv who told me to send it back lol. :)

I wouldn't worry about either test. Both written and road tests are ridiculously easy to pass. Personally I would just do the full test and keep your Onterio driving license.

Hi!!

This message for everyone that entered the USA with a K1 Visa, got married, got their SSN and then got a Driver's Licence in ILLINOIS.

In my case, I did everything but the Driver's Licence. I went to the DMV in Schamburg, IL and they told me that they can't give me a DL because I need an I-94 with at least 6 months of validity. Everyone that entered the USA with a K1 receive a I-94 for only 90 days.

Unfortunatelly, they weren't very nice and they told me that they can only give me a DV when a get a Green Card.

The problem is that I will receive my EAD in 30 days but my green card will take at least until October 2014. And I need to work! And without a car is impossible to work in the Suburbs.

Can you please tell me your expiriences trying to get a DL in Illinois?

Thanks a lot for your help! I really need it

Cheers

Pablo
