Perhaps this is just a case of knowing too much for my own good...

It would be different if they had got my wife's name wrong on the card, but who am I to tell them which category they were supposed to use. After all, the only thing I have to go on is an Excel sheet off their website from 2003.

Maybe some offices make all marriage related adjustments CR6, regardless of whether they adjusted from K1. I don't know... I just hate to go and stir something up by making an InfoPass appointment and telling them I know how to do their job better than they do.

I decided not to let this difference in categories trouble me. Whatever will be, will be. Gonna leave it alone. :)

Then why did you bother bringing it up in the first place?

I brought it up because I wanted to see if other K1s besides my wife had been adjusted to CR6 and if there were any "known" problems because of that.

I'm not about to walk in to an InfoPass appointment without some pretty hard evidence that USCIS did in fact make a mistake on the card. Otherwise it's just not worth taking the abuse the folks in the lobby like to dish out.

I was a tourist adjustee (VWP), and I am now a CR-6.

That makes sense, since it says spouses, adjustments, conditional (CR6), so that would include K-3s and other spouses that AOS to CPR.

It specifically says Spouses, adjustments, entered as fiance(e), conditional (CF1) or otherwise I would say a K-1 AOS to CPR could possibly be a CR6.

I called CIS and was transferred to an immigration officer. They said that if CR6 is the code on the card, then it is the correct one.

We could still go for InfoPass next week, but I think I might get a similar reaction from them... Or if I push it, they might take the card back to have it corrected a year from now.

We haven't gotten our Welcome notice yet. Does that also show what category the card was issued as or is that info just on the card?

I take it from the lack of the replies the answer is "no".

We decided to send a letter to the officer who adjudicated our case asking him about whether the CR6 is ok or if it needs to be corrected. We attached a photocopy of the card and the page from the 2004 immigration yearbook that shows the definitions for CF1 and CR6. If he thinks it's important enough to address and tells us to go in for InfoPass and/or file and I-90, then we'll do it. If we don't get a response from him, then we won't press the issue. We'll save a copy of the letter in our file in case it becomes an issue later. That way we can show we made a reasonable effort to ensure the card is accurate.

jsnearline:

I was on k3 and got greencard after AOS interview with CR6 code.

I think you shouldn't worry and don't write anything to USCIS. Once you get greencard with correct name, DOB, sex and nationallity.....that's it. Which code they put is USCIS's internal process with different categories.

I don't think so that anyone else except you worry about code.

i suggest that you just relax and enjoy your wife's greencard.........and continue in life. Because life far more than just greencard process.

good luck

That's what I thought at first too, but then I started thinking about how picky USCIS can be when it comes to errors, and it seems like it doesn't matter to them whether it's their fault or the applicant's. The applicant is the one held responsible for ensuring that their paperwork is correct.

In any event, we've sent our letter and if we don't get any reply, we'll consider the matter closed, having done our part to make sure the card is correct.

Well... We got a letter back from the district office today telling us that we need to file an I-90 and request the "appropriate corrections". The letter doesn't state what those corrections should be. We're going to make an InfoPass appointment to try and get them to clarify what they want us to do.

It looks like you are creating work for yourself for nothing. I'd leave it alone. The code does not matter; the GC is just as good.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)
