My husband has been here 7 months now. We are applying for his brother to come here on a student visa, We will pay for everything including his education. From what ive been going though this seems so easy. Everyone i talk to in the college say just to get transcripts translated and they will issue an 1-20. Has anyone done this. I know he has to go to the consulate in Morocco for and interview is that where we are going to run into trouble?. I really want to hear stories from someone who has done this and let me know if this is as a simple process as it seems. He should start in January of 2007 and the school says it is very possible.

I did this. Have you contacted the local university where he will attend? They always have a laison in the office to help with this. Basically he needs to submit information to the school and the school gives him teh information he needs for the visa. You and your husband would serve as sponsors and fill in the appropriate forms.

Hi.

I can tell you a little bit about F-1.

1. The first step is to apply and get into the school and for the school to issue the I-20. I think this would be the easy part.

2. The most important step is to go for an interview at the consulate of the home country for his F-1 visa. There he could be asked about his relatives in US and he has to mention about his brother and you. It's upto him to convince the interviewer that he is coming to the US only to study and would go back after completing his course. He has to prove strong ties to his home country. The interviewer could assume that since you guys are here, he might just come here and stay and not go back. That's why there has to be a lot of evidence that he has strong ties to his home country.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I would be glad to answer them.

Yes I did all the paperwork and he is getting his high school transcripts translated. He is from Morocco and his whole family is there so he has strong ties. The only one here is his brother(whom im married to) but ive been married only 7 months. I wonder if that has any effect? He is going to the community college here and they just started accepting foreign students as of 2005. Everything will be taken care of here for him . Do you know what he should say as far as going to a community college here? How to act like school here is so important. He went to the University in morocco for 4 years but didnt pass the last year but we are not going to submit that b/c it will take longer for the paperwork( i asked if that was ok) they said yes it was up to my brother-in-law. Will the consulate know he was at the university in morocco? will they question him about that? Morocco can be very difficult. What reasons should he tell the consulate he wants to go to school here? Can he stay through the summer without going to school and start again in september? Sorry for all the questions but thanks.

Honestly I don't know how the interview would go for community colleges. Since the college accepts foreign students and issues I-20, he shouldn't have any problem going for the interview.

He mostly likely will be asked to show the transcripts from his college in Morocco during his interview. The consulate would want to know about his college work in Morocco. Again, he needs to convince the interviewer that the school he plans on going in the US is going to help him for his future and without coming to the US, he wouldn't get that kind of education in Morocco (something along that lines). Again this depends on that particular day and the interviewer (what kind of questions he might be asked).

Once he gets the visa and registers and starts going to school here, there are certain credit requirements that he needs to satisfy every semester to stay in school and be in status for his F-1 visa. This would be best found out from the International Student Advisor at the school he is planning to go to.

"YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER WAY"

Guess a student visa is your other way for bringing the brothers over?

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

College is college, Morocco doesn't care. My BIL was accepted to a summer program, quickly switched to a school across the country, had the I-20 reissued by the Community College and filed with Casa and that was that.

Wow, so you're supporting everyone? Are you supporting your husband and his brothers to go to school and live here? And they are from Morocco? Do you not see how sketchy all of this is?

i dont understand what u are saying as far as "scetchy". Why would it matter if we were supporting them? Of course I agreed to pay for school. This is my huisbands brother and if he wanted everyone to come I would help his whole family financially. Why wouldnt I? Would you do it for your husbands family?

First of all I didn't say it was scetchy I said it was sketchy.

So your husband made it to American yay! Now he can have his whole family come live here and why the hell not? You're going to support them all financially, pay for school, for rent, for underwear, for cell phones.

Helllooooooooooo anyone home?

It is not often that I post in reply to something like this but in this instance I feel I have to and say, this is not only decidedly "sketchy" it is positivily "fishy", to me anyway. First:

You ask "HOW TO ACT like school here is so so important "- that tells me it is not really important and he is going to pretend in order to be granted leave to move to the US

You are not going to submit on the form that he went to Uni in Morocco for 4 years but failed, - is that not called lying??

"what reasons should he tell the consulate he wants to go to school here.??? eduction would be a good answer but I should imagine that in light of your post and your questions that is not the real reason.

You are now sponsoring your husband I take it, so as to the answer "you would help his whole family. I take it that you are in a fantastically paid job???

And yes, same as CarolineM I too would be "sketched" our after only 7 months of your hubby being in the states.

Sorry to anybody if I have offended but when I read what you have posted and your subsequent replies to posts, there is only one conclusion that I can draw from this. Do you not realise that to all the people on here who are still going through this, oft times, horrendous process, just how they may view this???? probably the same way as I have.
