Penguin linked you with the correct guide for the process. You'll be adjusting your status to permanent resident in the US - assuming, of course, that your goal is to remain in the US with your husband and become a permanent resident.

You'll file all the paperwork together, with the I-130, I-485 and all supporting documents that are listed in the instructions for the forms. The process will cost you around $1,500 in filing fees, plus the cost of a medical exam which can be anything from $100 to $300, on average. It'll probably take roughly 4-5 months from filing the papers to getting your GC, and you'll have an interview as a part of the process.

These same forms are used for several different situations, so not all questions will necessarily apply to you. For example, you do not have an A#. You'll leave it blank, or write N/A.

Whether you want to involve a lawyer or not is your decision, but this is a DIY forum and most people here go through the process without a lawyer, especially if their case is a straight forward one and doesn't involve any major red flags or complications.

Hi,

My now husband came over on ESTA. We were confused with this section as well so we set up an InfoPass appointment and the case worker advised that we leave the A# blank and write 'Visa Waiver Program ESTA' in the section for the I94. We also photocopied the page in his passport when he entered the US on his ESTA which was enough. If you are still unsure, I would set up an appointment but our paperwork went through okay. We filed I485, I130, I131 (Travel Authorization), I765 (Work Authorization) together and the cost is $1490 USD total. One check. Obviously, you need to include the other paperwork and the unopened packet for medical. I only mention the $1490 because we were told that specifically by the case worker but I started to doubt myself after going through the paperwork and ended up overpaying the first time. If you file all of those together, it is only $1490.

I hope this helps!

Thank you,

Natalie
