Maximum a week before. I can't stand the consumerism that comes with Christmas now. The shops over here in the UK are already stocking decorations and are decorated themselves...I hate it.

I hate that it has made an enjoyable time of year into something that is oversold and waved in my face for 3 months before hand. There should be a ban on Christmas decorations until the 1st of December.

Bah humbug!!

We decorate the outside of the house usually the first weekend after Thanksgiving. The inside of the house (christmas tree and such) doesn't usually get done until the week before, but that depends on when my brother and I set that up. It's a joint effort. My father does the outside, we do the inside.

One point of this poll noted which makes it invalid: forgotten was the "put up? we did it once and don't bother taking them down anytime" choice.

Not really big on the Xmas decorations, even though I do celebrate Xmas in other ways. I love Xmas music, so I'll vote for how long before Xmas I usually start to listen to Xmas music...about 3 weeks before I'd say.

My birthday is on November 28, back home (we dont celebrate Thanksgiving in Venezuela), I had all my Xmas stuff for my birthday, tree and all.

Last year was our first Christmas together, and his birthday is on December 1st, so we went shopping for our tree and everything that week.

I am aiming for the same this year!! So, it's like a month before.

I love Christmas, and i love how cute the house looks with all the Xmas decorations!!

I've always put the tree up right after Thanksgiving. I love the look of a "tastefully" decorated tree in the living room. Gets me in the right frame of mind for Xmas. I find it relaxing. Of course, I'm also a tree fanatic, so it isn't surprising.

Looks like I might have to beat the Xmas spirit into Mags, though. One week? Are you nuts?

:P

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Thanksgiving is usually when we put up our decorations too.

While I was in Canada, it used to be around November 24th, my daughter's birthday.

Both my husband and I are very extreme Xmas decorators.

Usually when the neighbours put theirs up! Can't be the only unlit house in the street!

Hubby actually wanted to put the lights up a few weeks back when he was up there cleaning gutters, wayyyy too early for me.
