Hi All,

I understand that if a legal resident parent petitions for a child (21+) and abandons the petition during the wait period, the child loses his green card application. If the parent regains residency and re-petitions for the child, can the time that was waited in the 1st petition be aggregated to the 2nd petition?

My friend's father petitioned for him some time ago, after 4 years of waiting and a year before my friend was due to receive a visa number, his father accepted a job as a diplomat for which he had to abandon his permanent residence. The job lasted 1.5 years, and he now regained his residency. The father is willing to re-petition for my friend, but does the wait time start at zero? I would appreciate some help. Thanks.
