Registering Canadian vehicles in the US

We are trying to find out how to get our Toyota and Harley Davidson moved from Canada to the US.

A Customs agent I spoke with said that each vehicle will require a form from the manufacturer stating its compliance with US requirements.

As we started checking into this, we have been re-directed to websites and phone numbers from both sides of Canada and the US. I seems that we must be the first to ever bring their vehicles with them when moving to the US.

You would think that it would be simple. Think about it... this Toyota Highlander was actually assembled in the states, and so was the Harley Davidson. One would think that a list would exist that says these Canadian vehicles are permitted to be registered in the states without any special import forms.

Anyone have any experience they can share with me? Just how is this done?

Lots of recent threads on this here in the Canada forum, but here's what you need to know:

Note: If the vehicle has stickers on the engine (EPA) and inside the drivers-side door (DOT) stating that the car was manufactured to U.S. standards, you will not need a manufacturers letter. Some vehicles are listed by make, model, and year on the DOT and EPA web sites as conforming. If your vehicle is one of those, that would also negate the need for a manufacturer's letter.

Krikit I was trying to look up your link but it's not working (I'm guessing VJ auto shortened it or something) - could you try to PM that link to me? My car has the EPA sticker but not the DOT one (just the Canadian standards one) and Toyota refuses to issue a compliance letter. I am hoping if my car is on the list on that website that would negate my need for the letter and I could print off that list instead....
