Hi all!

My husband got a phone call from the embassy saying that due to unforseen circumstances, they are unable to carry out visa interviews on the scheduled date and they have to reschedule it for the next day, 25 September. The problem is that we live in Glasgow and he has already made arrangements with his work and paid for flights and hotel accom, both of which are non-refundable. When he explained this to the embassy person, they said sorry but they cannot do the interview on the 24th and they can't reimburse him for any associated costs.

Does anyone know if this happens often and whether there is anything we can do to recover the costs of rearranging his travel? Thanks!

Sometimes they tighten security. Have you checked obama's schedule to see if he will be at the embassy on Sept 24. That would be an example of why they might limit the public entering.

Recovering costs? Plead your case with the boss, airline, and hotel to switch the date for free.

Thanks guys. I guess we'll just have to chalk this up to a bit of bad luck, it seems. We tried to plead our case with the airline, but it's easyjet so they're not overly helpful. Maybe the hotel will be more understanding!

Hi Hjones

That sounds like an absolute pain! I would hope that there were very good reasons for having to reschedule but, of course, their good reasons do not help you much.

We are in Argyll so travelling to London is also going to be quite a trek for us too. I am, therefore, going to heed your experience and try our best to get travel tickets and accommodation we can cancel and get refunded from just in case. Since there will be six of us travelling and needing accommodation, a change of medical or interview date could be massively expensive for us so it is well worth us paying the bit extra involved to be eligible for an exchange or refund.

Best wishes

Laura

Immigration Timeline: I130 Approval November 2012; Interview July 2013; Immigration October 2013. (Note, however, that we chose to stall the process for personal scheduling reasons)
As a family of six, we relocated from Argyll in Scotland to Pennsylvania in October 2013.

I applied for Citizenship in October 2017 and am currently waiting for an Interview date.

I worked for a travel agency and I can assure you the hotel, even if the room has been paid for, HAS to accomodate any change. The minimum period they could require to make such changes for free should be written in the terms & conditions but for a standard hotel shouldn't be any more than 48hrs.

Unless it has been booked through one of those bargain website, but again, if so, i would just phone up the hotel and explain that due to unforeseen circumstances plans have changed and you need to change accomodation accordingly.

With easyjet, hmmm its prob cheaper to just book another ticket, I think they charge a ridiculous amount to change date, plus you would have to pay any difference (but they don't reimburse you if the ticket is much cheaper than the one u bought!)
