Assuming that Romney had been given an amnesty (which personally I do not assume, lest I be accused of being a conspiracy nut in my own right), it would go towards his claims of being clean as a whistle regarding his financial dealings. He is running as a candidate whose experience in successfully running a country and managing his personal wealth would improve the economic health of the country. If he had run afoul of tax law in the past but was given an amnesty, that would be relevant because it reflects on his assertions of financial probity.

What records? There is no screcy or mystery around what educational institutions he attended and graduated from. None. The only people asking for transcripts and whatnot are the birthers - the same people who will call them fake if they were released. What's the point?
