I am filling the I-751 for my wife

I have searched many times and I see conflicting answers on whether a naturalized citizen should write the A# when asked on a form.

If the US Certificate of Citizenship has the Alien Number, then I am guessing that it is required to write the A# when asked.

on PART 4 of the I-751, it asks for A-number (if any). I am a naturalized citizen and when I look at my Certificate this is what I see:

The United States of America

No. AXXXXXXX

Certificate of Citizenship

INS Registration no. AXXXXXXXX

My question is which of the above numbers is the Alien Number? And do I need to write the A# on Part 4 of form I-751. The number at the very top of the certificate is in Red.

This is a tricky question. My "alien registration number" shown as "INS A#" so sort of the combination of the two you have mentioned above...so I am not sure. But if someone will give you a definite answer which one that is, I think you definitely want to put it down on the form! Even though you are a US citizen now, you were naturalized, hence you have a big background of how you immigrated here, what visa you were on, and how did you acquire your green card, and later on your citizenship. It is better to have it down on the form, then not have it there and have it thrown back at you, don't you think?

Good luck figuring out which one might be your alien registration number...if you happen to have still an old EAD card that will definitely tel you. That's where I've got my "INS A#" off from. :) It's shitty old, from the year 2000, but good enough as once you are assigned an alien registration number that is yours for the rest of your life, like your SSN. :) It's your permanent stamp on your back! ;)

One more thing: My INS A# number is a total of 9 digits...3-3-3. Maybe that will help you...if your X that you put down here represents the actual number of digits than it's the INS registration number that is your alien registration number. Good luck!

hello ablade

A# stand up for alien registration number (green card) so your are not longer green card holder so put A/N good luck

i think you meant n/a (not applicable).. and yes op, doesn't matter how you got your citizenship (birthright or naturalized).. in the eyes if the uscis, you are an american citizen.. so stop referring to yourself as having an alien#.. that no longer and will no longer apply to you..

LPR 2007

CITIZENSHIP 2012

N-400 filed based marriage to usc = april ??

biometrics = june 21

interview = august 2

oath taking = august 29

I found that my old A# is the INS Registration number on my Citizenship Certificate. I will put it down on the I-751 form and see what happens, and then post the results when I submit my form I-751 in October 10, 2012.

"The United States of America

No. AXXXXXXX

Certificate of Citizenship

INS Registration no. AXXXXXXXX"
