How far apart do they allow you to do the two?

I just emailed to book the medical exam in Vancouver and the date they gave me is 3 weeks before my interview date? Will this still be ok or should I try to move it a bit later?

This should be fine but you could also email them and tell them your interview date and ask if it is possible to have your medical a bit closer to that date!

If you do end up doing it 3 weeks apart let me know - I'd like to do my medical earlier than my interview (since I have concerns about the medical but not the interview part). I thought they were supposed to be scheduled close to each other but haven't been able to find any confirmation of that anywhere yet.

I read through my Packet 3 instructions from Vancouver and there is a note:

"MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND VISA INTERVIEW: Due to changes in Department of Homeland Security

procedures, the medical exam should be completed on a date close to the actual visa appointment in Vancouver. Details

on how to schedule a medical examination and a visa interview will be provided to you as soon as we receive notification

that you have collected all of the required documents. "

So I guess I will find out more once I get ahold of Packet 4...

Packet 4 doesn't contain very much information. Basically I booked my interview date then emailed Dr.Cheema's office (the phone # is a answering machine only) & told them my interview date. They emailed me back with prefer date & then told me my date choices. They are very easy to communicate with, very friendly staff.

I had my medical on Aug 29 & my interview today. Both went very well, visa approved. Expect visa in 3-5 business days thru Loomis/DHL.

I've been finding Dr. Cheema's office is HORRIBLE at getting back to you via email. It took 5 days before they actually responded and they responded with one line. I'm still vague if I have an appointment tomorrow or not but I suppose I have no choice but to go and find out! So far, I am not impressed with this office at all.

I sent them an email today asking a few questions so we'll see how long (and if) they get back to me. If they do I'll let you know what they've said. Sorry to hear they were so bad about getting back to you. Hopefully your medical goes well tomorrow.

I did my medical almost 2 months before the interview. It doesn't matter as long as the medical is still valid when you go for the interview and POE, and if you want to make your life easier AOS. Its valid for 12 months, so lots of time.

Well at 7pm the night before the date of the appointment they got back to me and gave me a new appointment date. To the poster above that was given a choice, lucky you, because they've always just given me one date and time. Their response time seems to be hit or miss for me as the first time I emailed them they got back to me within 24 hours. When I emailed back the next day and tried to reschedule (and sent more emails as the appointment date grew closer) it took almost a week for them to get back to me. And with just one line of text. Their phone number is just an answering machine that directs you to their website and email so it's not helpful if you wish to speak to someone right away.

For the record, they advise you book your appointment at least 7-10 days prior to your interview date as it takes time for the results to come in.

Heard back from the K Visa unit in Vancouver this morning (and I emailed them yesterday - they are FAST!). They said:

Thank you for the update we have received your DS-230 part I and the checklist. We have sent you the instruction on how to schedule for an appointment and have your medical done on September 07, 2012.

The medical can be done few days or weeks before the interview. Please see the attached information.

There was a word document attached to the email with more information - mostly about who and where the doctors were and what kind of things needed to be done before seeing the doctor (vaccinations etc). Think I am going to try to get my medical done in Sept so I can avoid having to deal with the flu shot. Hopefully they will have a spot on the day I want! Was hoping for a Saturday so my fiance could be there as well. We'll see.
