My g/f is recently divorced. She has her green card with conditions and will soon be filing to remove her conditions. She has a date of Aug 2013 for her green card.

Our question is should she use a lawyer or try to do the I-751 form ourselves..?

She does have the divorce that is a concern. She was married for two years and it was a legit marriage. She has plenty of pics over the two years. She has some docs, such as bills and such. She also has two letters from people stating they saw them over the duration of their marriage in various functions and times.

We did go to a lawyer and he suggested we should retain him as our case is a bit complicated. We have to show a story of a legit marriage and it was not fraud.

He charges 4500.00 and the 590.00 for the filing fees.

Any suggestions?

I would save yourself the money and do it yourself. That is, if she has a lot of documentation to show that her marriage was legit and entered into in good faith. All the questions that you have can be answered on Visa Journey. That's my opinion :)

Thanks guys...we plan to get three 'estimates'...one guy wanted 1200.00, plus filing fee. He was older and not too sharp, in fact I had to show him things on the I-751 that he didn't know. The second guy is one of the best lawyers for immigration in the DC/Md area, but is pricey. We have a third one planned soon.

A possible concern in a lack of evidence? As I said, she has lots of pics and other things, but she thinks she doesn't have enough. The second lawyer made it seem he had to create a story, as such. Not a made up one, but one that shows her marriage was not a fake or sham.

We just want to be as sure as we can. She and her X did her original K1 and I've done a K1 in the past as well, without lawyers.
