Processing Time for N400 in New York City......?

You've been waiting two months just for the interview date to be scheduled?! Wow... That doesn't bode well for us at all. :(

Do you think the wait depends on how easily they are able to get information from your home country? I've seen some people zip through this process and for others it seems to take quite a lot longer.

Unfortunately yes - and very annoying it is too, especially seeing people who applied at different centres months after my application and they're already citizens!

Not sure about any delay getting information from people's home countries - though I'd guess what they need is negligible (if they even need anything at this stage) and I would suspect the UK and Canada would be amongst the easiest countries in that respect. NYC seems slowest for everyone I've not really seen anyone zip through.

One good things is that it appears summer is the slowest time, especially for NYC processing so it does appear things are speeding up now. Looking at last year's threads for the same period (yes, I'm obsessed!) there's a similar pattern - drags over summer, speeds up around now

Even more so when it means I won't get to vote this year.

Don't feel bad, voting is highly overrated. Our vote means squat anyway, why even bother. Personally, I have decided to stop voting. Politicians don't do ANYTHING in our best interests. They will do what is in their best interests and their bank account's best interests.

As for freaking out/stressing/worrying over the wait, STOP IT. There is nothing we can do to change it, so why get physically sick frm the stress. Worrying or screaming and yelling at the USCIS robots won't change a thing. It's funny because I'm a total type A personality, but when it comes to immigration, I have been completely patient the whole way. It will get processed when it gets processed and there's nothing (at least until it gets outside the "normal processing times"), so just let it play out.

I don't understand why I'm so relaxed with all of this.

No one is getting stressed out. The NYC center is extremely and unacceptably slow - possibly the slowest in the country. Everyone has paid the same fee across the US and to see our processing taking twice as long (sometimes longer) is disappointing, even more so when USCIS doesn't always bother to update online status - so it's only natural that people might be concerned letters have been lost in the mail. For many it's outside processing time and USCIS phone lines are at best less poorly informed and at worst downright dishonest

I can't speak for anyone else but I have other plans that I can't get on with until the process is finished, so their slowness is holding me up, something I don't appreciate given the cost.

NYC Field offices are way behind other states re N400 applications. The above info even tho it might be posted on NYC's field office website; is a bit misleading to new VJ members... I think that for some of the cases it might be complicated because of issues, and as such are way outside the normal timeline.... Take for example N400 applications, do u think they are only working on Feb 9, 12' applications? I know a few June 12' filers who are now getting IL ..... and dates.

Within how many days, will you get interview letter after being placed in line for interview?

The real interview date is 1 month after the date you get the letter?

No specific time here. Depends on your local office. I could take a week or three months.

My wife filed N-400 in June 14, 2012 and she received her interview letter today in the mail on October 4, 2012 for the next month interview on November 9, 2012. We live in Queens in NYC, just across the new USCIS field office in Long Island City in NY...a few blocks away. A few facts about her case-(1) she did her fingerprinting on July 7, 2012 on the date mentioned on her fingerprinting letter and not just on walking-basis prior to scheduled date of July 7,2012. (2) After done fingerprinting on July 7, 2012, she did NOT receive anything from USCIS or did not hear at all from USCIS, meaning no "Yellow Letter" (which she still did not receive) and she didn't receive any email or text from them despite of giving all these information. Plus, her case was not placed in a queue for the interview either. So receiving an interview letter today was just a shocking and pleasing. A bit short of full 4 months to receive the interview notice after filing the application and a bit short of 5 months for the interview after filing the application, which is not bad at all for an application in NYC.

As for some members telling above that they paid equal fees for this application like applicants from other parts of the country, getting frustrated over the USCIS office in NYC then I just want them to know that I also paid the same fees when this fees was implemented 2007-08 and it took a year for my simple and straight-forward case to be over in NYC (Garden City office at that time). While the applicants in Newark (NJ) and Baltimore were getting their whole case to be over within 4-5 months. That being said, I think applicants from NY shouldn't be frustrated nor making a big deal out of it. And as one of the posters above mentioned that there is nothing you could do anyway...at least until stated processing time is over. So just relax and get busy in your life than just thinking about your application.

I will keep you guys updated about my wife's application like interview and oath as things would get proceed.

Good luck....

Thank you for sharing. It's comforting as well as pleasing to know that NYC is somewhat moving. I would love to be surprised in a similar manner too, whereas I am waiting for a text, I end up receiving a letter in the mail. Pease do keep us posted and God Bless you......(I am from queens area too, and probably will be sent to the holtsville office like you, since the garden city office has been shifting to the new location). USCIS updated its processing dates on October 4th, and are processing March 2nd cases. Hopefully, it won't be long for us to hear anything.

Very friendly compared to the field office in Manhattan. I have had an interview at the Garden City office for AOS and made infopasses a few times and was positively received. Am praying to be interviewed there again. Manhattan office will butcher you.
