Hi, I've been looking all over for this information but I can't find anything official. I saw on SSN's website that you need certain documents (EAD or something to prove you're a legal immigrant) but nothing regarding my current situation. I've been living with my husband and am still legal with my B2(tourist) status, since we're still going to apply for AOS. Is it possible for me to apply for a SSN with my marriage certificate and valid I-94 only? That I mean before the AOS.

09/07/2012 - Mailed AOS package (I-130,I-485,I-765) via USPS Express Mail.

09/10/2012 - Package delivered by USPS.

09/12/2012 - Email notification received.

09/17/2012 - NOAs for I-130, I-485 and I-765 received in the mail.

09/20/2012 - Biometrics appt scheduled for 10/04/2012.

10/04/2012 – Biometrics completed.

11/02/2012 - Interview scheduled for 12/04/2012.

11/14/2012 - 1st text EAD approved/production.

11/19/2012 - 2nd text EAD approved/production.

11/20/2012 - EAD mailed.

11/24/2012 - EAD received.

12/04/2012 - Interview..approved, thank God! :D

I highly doubt it. B2 is not an immigrant visa, so your status is still non-immigrant. You are not a "legal immigrant" yet.

Once you've filed for AOS (make sure to file for EAD at the same time), your status will be "pending". After receiving your EAD, you can apply for SSN.

Hmmm ok, I guess that makes sense. I was just wondering since it can be a long wait and I would like to be able to get myself situated with ID's, cards, etc.

Your marriage, by itself, gives you no immigrant benefit. This is an exception to the normal immigration path, so there are no benefits available to you. Just so you know what will be ahead for you.

you can't my friend.i have a similar case as yours except we filed our petition a week back.you will get your EAD in about 2 months after filing.come join the AOS patience club :blush: just kidding

haha yeah, it is a patience club for this waiting game! I'm gonna try to send all my paperwork by the end of this week :) Thanks and good luck!
