Expedite

We have had our expedite approved on 7 August due to an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan for a K1 Visa. Which was originally filed on 23 July.

I received a letter in the mail on 12 August dated 7 August from the VSC saying that the expedite was approved, but I have heard nothing yet, and the status of our case online has not been updated since 27 July.

Any recommendations on what I can do? I contacted the military help line and they connected me to another person, in response I received this email which was almost exactly the letter I received on 12 August.

The status of this service request is:

Your request for expeditious processing is approved.

We have requested your file. The petition or application will be reviewed and you should be receiving notification from this office very shortly.

I am not familiar with the K1 process, but I think you now have to wait for your file to be sent to the Consulate/Embassy so try contacting them. Post this Q in the K1 forum and you'll probably receive quicker responses.

Sorry let me clarify, our expedite was approved on 7 August, but we have not received NOA2 and our case hasn't been updated since 27 July.

The expedite was approved, but it can still take a little bit. I would call the military helpline to see what is up with your case. I did an expedite and didnt hear anything. (I was deployed at the time) I called again and requested an expedite again. After that I found out we had an RFE. I hope that isnt the case for you, but that is what happened to us.

Expedite approval just means your file was pulled out and is being reviewed. We did that for AOS and got an RFE. :/ Just keep following up your case.

For interested parties that read this in the future Ft. Bragg has a USCIS representative that helped with our situation. I would guess that other posts of a similar size have this as well. Helped us out a lot.

We found out that our I-130 was approved before we even know our expedite request was approved - so perhaps they will need more information from you? Hope that isn't the case! Good luck!

How do you request an expedite? I will possibly deploy in May and will be sumbiting a 129 soon for a K-1 visa.

My husband wrote a memorandum and attached a print off showing that he had a pending PCS assignment from the military database, with some information blacked out that we didn't want them to see.

We made referred to that as a bullet point in our cover letter, right underneath the I-130 form itself.

My husband then called once we received our NOA1 to confirm the expedite request. They didn't request further information from us (i.e. actual orders which won't come until much closer to the date).

Another question about it, how much fast does an approved expedite make things happen? Without it, looks like 5-7 months..with it, approx how long (assuming no RFE or other delays)?

we got approved with visa in hand in 5 months with an RFE...we lost a month on that.

Well we sent our I-130 on 29 September, it's now 1 November and we're about 1/4 of the way through the NVC process.

We'll be hoping to be together by the end of December. We have requested an expedite at the NVC stage now, and are just waiting to hear back.

Definitely worth doing if you can!
