Sponsor Responsibility for i-864

Hi everyone, I have a few questions about the responsibilities of the sponsor before signing the form for my nephew. He got married to a US Citizen, and has a new born baby. Since his wife doesn't have enough income, she applied Medicaid for pregnancy, so both his wife and his son got Medicaid right now. If I'm sponsoring him, do I need to support his wife and his son as well? Do I have to repay the medications' cost for his wife and his son during their stay in the hospital? I'm pretty sure my nephew doesn't apply for anything, but my worry is his wife and his son.

I think you only need to take care of your nephew. Coz you are signing this paperwork for your nephew not for his wife.

The purpose of I-864 is:

To show that the applying immigrant has enough financial support to live without concern of becoming reliant on U.S. government welfare.

Which means as long as your nephew is not becoming an public charge, you are fine.

If the wife and the son (American citizens) need financial help, their government should take care of it, not you.
