Got Permanent Resident Card, but confused...

My wife got her Permanent Resident Card today and it's left us a little confused.

When we sent in the adjustment of status we also sent in the forms for the employment authorization and the permission to travel outside the US.

However this came first and it says on the card that she is authorized to work, and in reading about what the card is about on the USCIS site it makes it sound like she can now travel freely outside the US again and be able to return within a year.

So does this card over ride the employment authorization document and the advance parole document that we have yet to see?

If so, that was easy... but didn't we also end up wasting a lot of money on forms that were taken care of with the AOS?

If you have your Green Card you can work, travel, the lot. EAD and AP are now pointless, as they're just fill ins while you wait for the Green Card. Congrats!

as long as you have the GC, you can work and travel now. the ead and ap are for those who hasn't gotten their gc's yet. you are lucky to get it early. i have to wait a few months after i got my ead and ap before i got my gc.

Thanks, that clears things up quite a bit.

Still, it's odd because we never had an interview, just the biometric appointment, and now the card has suddenly arrived.

Not complaining though, the holidays are going to be much easier now, but we're a little thrown off by having this show up so soon.

Yes, this is the goal in the immigration process. Congratulations, you got a shorcut there!

If so, that was easy... but didn't we also end up wasting a lot of money on forms that were taken care of with the AOS?

No, it was not a waste of money, they were an insurance policy (more like a surety) since most AOS cases do not complete for about a year.

It's Murphy's Law. If you hadn't applied, a travel or work emergency would've come up and you'd be left short. :)
