Hey, all-

I've been a reader on this forum for a while now, and so grateful for all of the stories and advice shared.

I am a US citizen, and my Canadian fiance and I were married last month in the States after she received her K-1. We are now ready to adjust her status, but we're trying to figure out if I can be her sole sponsor on the I-864 considering our circumstances:

I am currently a graduate student, and did not work this year or in 2011. I have about $35-40K in IRA, savings accounts, etc. that I can claim as my assets. I understand that I need 5 x over 125% of the poverty line considering I don't have income to show.

It also seems that my wife is now considered part of my home now. She owns a business in Canada, and makes about 200K (Canadian) a year. She has about 70K (Canadian) in the bank. Will these numbers be considered despite them being her earnings out of the country?

We could potentially use my parents as a joint sponsor, but I would so love to be able to complete this process ourselves, without making anyone else responsible for her sponsorship.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

Your spouse's income / assets can be included along with your income/assets.

The multiplier is 3X if the money is in a US account.
