rebeccajo: I originally applied for a SSN after we got married, big mistake. No matter what I said to the woman there, she flat out refused to issue me with a number and said I had to wait til my surname was updated through INS. Okay did that, but when we went back, the day after I got NOA1, was told I was 2 days too late to get a number and now had to wait for approval of either EAD or AOS.

So on the 7t November, or there abouts,in I trots to "finally" get my SSN and much to my unsurprise, I still couldn't.

Today's phone call from SS was a followup saying that they needed me to go in again and blah blah as per the last post.

SO if I see anyone waiting til after they are married to get a SSN, I tell them not too, it does not save any hassle, it creates more.

i cant understand how the states here are so different in their readings of their rules...(did i say that right)

i did the same as you waited till after we were married and i got mine ok in OHIO (and our wedding days r only 1 day apart too)...it just amazes me how each state can be so different to the even the next state over in this kinda stuff...

Its not so much the states are different here. Every person in every office has their own interpretation of the rules. Its the inconsistencies that get me. (Mikey wrote that, and I concur)

Just wanna say "thank you" kaffykat & leanne for their replies on my inquiries about K2 SSN. I tried to call USCIS customer services this afternoon and wishing i could have something feedback about my son K2 AOS updates, but the voice machine says its 180 days processing time after it was transferred to CSC. geezz! I hope not, but i couldn't bear to talk to live person anymore so i turned off the phone. But when i check online processing time in USCIS website, it says you could follow-up your case 30 days over your processing time & 60 days after you replied to an RFE. Checked the month they processing in CSC is May 16, 2006 cases.

All we're different info's , you don't know who you gonna use for your guides.

PS: im not complaining .... im just sharing what i heard & read.

That's why we have mdyoung around here (I hope - somebody insulted him the other day). Read him regarding all things releated to Social Security, take a printout with you of the appropriate reg, and if you come up against a bonehead, demand to speak to their supervisor.

SO if I see anyone waiting til after they are married to get a SSN, I tell them not too, it does not save any hassle, it creates more.

It's sooooooooooooo easy to change a married name with the Social Security office. Fill out a fairly simple form, show them the marriage certificate, have some other ID on you, and poof you are done. I've never understood the VJ debate about waiting till after the marriage to file for the number.

I found out some very important information, specially for the ladies who frequent this posting.....

Chocolate

A good piece of chocolate has about 200 calories. As I enjoy two servings per night and a few more on weekends, I consume about 3,500 calories of chocolate in a week, which equals one pound of weight per week.

Therefore, in the last three and a half years, I have had chocolate caloric intake of about 180 pounds and I only weigh 165 pounds.

So, without chocolate, I would have wasted away to nothing about three months ago! I owe my life to chocolate!

:jest: hehehehe I got a giggle anyways!! :jest:

That's so awesome!! Congratulations, CWR, and good job to the CSC for slipping you in on the last day of the month. :)

Here's to hoping no one else has to hold that (not-so) coveted spot very long.

Conditions Removed! Ten-year green card received 6/24/2009. No more USCIS for a very long time.
