1st Dec 2008 - APPROVED-Card production ordered -112 days

8th Dec 2008 - USCIS mailed approval notice.

8th Dec 2008 - Received my 10 year Greencard in the mail. took 2 days.

Although I have the above date for approval my card actualy states the

2nd December..

Just got the email from CRIS. Finally!!!! Now it's time to go look for a job............

WOW I am so happy for you ... I have been looking daily to see if you or some of the others higher on the list have been approved ...

If all goes well you should have your card in your hand by the end of next week ... Good luck with the job hunting ... What kind of work will you be looking for anyways ??

That's how long this whole process has been going on for!!! :)

Just curious how you come up with two years.....

This started way back in December of 2004. I owned a large part of, and worked for a US tech company that I had started. I was travelling back and forth from Canada to the US for business almost weekly. After Holly and I met (she worked in the law firm that my company was using for some patent filings), we decided I would move to the US instead of running my part of it from Canada, which made perfect sense. After consulting an expensive immigration attorney, they said I was a shoe-in for a TN-1 visa, and set me up for it. $5,000 and 6 months later, thanks to the utter incompetency of the immigration firm who bungled the TN-1, I found myself stranded at the border, barred from entry. My immigration lawyer then gave me advice, had I followed, would have had me charged with fraud, barred for 10 years, and possibly imprisoned. My lawyer then abandoned me and refused to help any further. They did however send me another bill, which I laughingly tossed in the garbage.

It was June 2005, I could now not enter the US without a valid visa, and my business was suffering because of it. I went to another immigration attorney. Another $5,000 later, they set me up for an L-1B, to be adjudicated at port of entry. L-1B is an intracompany transfer for specialized knowledge workers. I was denied. The USCIS officer was very apologetic. He said, "if it were up to me, I'd give it to you, but you qualify more for the L-1A (which is for officers of the company and executives, which I was)."

$3,000 more in legal fees, plus $700 in USCIS filing fees and $1,000 USCIS expedited processing fee and my L-1A was sent off to the USCIS. It was 1 month later (thanks to the expedited processing fee), I was sent back a 4-page denial from the USCIS, saying essentially, that I didn't qualify from the L-1A, and that I qualified more for the L-1B. It was now October, 2005.

So I could not use the TN-1, when I tried the L-1B they told me I couldn't use it because I was more suited for the L-1A, when I tried the L-1A, they told me I couldn't use it because I was more suited to the L-1B.

My lawyers wanted to just "try again" to see if we would get a different result from a different agent. I was out of money and out of time. My company was in trouble because I couldn't get down to the US, and I had spent over $15,000 in immigration fees and lawyers. Holly and I decided that we would go the K-1 route. We filed in the beginning of November, 2005.

Just over a year later, I have my green card approval. It's too late for my company, however. I couldn't get down to my US office for over a year, I couldn't attend the crucial CES trade show in Las Vegas this past January, and without my presence to manage some very important decisions for over a year, the company foundered and failed this past summer.

So now I have a green card, but nowhere to work! I don't have the time or money to start up another company again, so it's time to go find a job...

I don't know...something in IT, of course, but I'm really not sure what I will be doing.
