so I am working on a theory that those who did not aply for EAD or AP get their GC faster.. they reckon those of us with an EAD and AP are in no hurry. I guess I am not in a hurry really as I can travel and work as normal but I would like the GC in my hands just for peace of mind... sigh... Last touch was Jan and nothing since then.

I don't think that is the case ... We applied for AOS and EAD and never did get the EAD as we got the GC relatively quick ... We threw the money away but if we had not applied for the EAD then our luck we would have had longer delays ...

In my opinion, it is the FBI name check that is delay most people ... If you have a common name then you could have longer delays ... In my case my last name is kind of unique ...

No. :( It's very rare to get any concrete confirmation of namechecks from CSC. (AOS applicants who go through local service centers and have interviews tend to find out from the interviewing officer, but we don't have that kind of contact.)

ETA: Incidentally, we didn't apply for EAD or AP, and we still had a (relatively) long wait.

Ok....I have another thought here....

We just recently learned we can use my husband's income to apply for a mortgage (thank the gods!) and while the mortgage people were checking his SSN, they found that his number is a "recycled" number and that this number popped up under the name of two deceased people (weird) soooo....since it's taking SOOOOOO long to process his adjustment thingie, I'm wondering if this is a possible hold up. Any thoughts anyone?

*sigh* Maybe that sounds weird but I'm just grasping at straws here...trying to understand something that I think is beyond understanding.

We emailed them and they confirmed we are stuck in FBI name check. The email address we used is: CSC-XII.485@dhs.gov - and for anyone who gets a reply saying the CSC doesn't respond to emails, as has happened to some here on VJ, ignore it and try again.

how do you find out if you have a recycled number? And (apart from the FBI Name Check, of course) does it affect anything down the road, having anumber that used to be someone elses?

The way we found out was when they researched his SSN for a credit report and the other name popped up as having belonged to that person at one time. I asked the mortgage guy if that would affect our mortgage and he said no. He says SSN's are recycled all the time so I'm assuming that when someone dies their SSN becomes recyclable.

As for affecting other things down the road...gosh, I haven't a clue....does make you wonder, eh?
