Were you asked any questions to prove your identity, or were you simply handed a ballot with no questions asked?

They asked for my ID and I simply - yet very politely - declined to show it. I never showed ID to vote in my entire life and I am not about to change that anytime soon.

Right, but did they ask you further questions to prove your identity? According to Hawaii law, they are supposed to ask your adress and birth date to compare it with their records before giving you a ballot.

I normally take my voting card along with me and that has all the information they need. Some people just take the information from the card.

I think that most people who work at the polling stations are there to enable voters to do so, rather than hinder the process and they have no legal standing upon which to enforce these laws.

If you went through the trouble to show up to vote, nobody should have the right to stop you.

But back to topic, are there any more feigned outrage being expressed by the matter posted by the OP or was it just a proto-copy published by the marginal media?

I can very easily vote w/o ID. Just need to request an absentee ballot which as a registered voter I will get in the mail. Anyone that wants to cast a fraudulent ballot can do that w/o ever going to the polls leaving all these voter ID laws entirely useless. Odd, isn't it? They should have addressed that, right? I mean this being about the integrity of the vote and all. Only, it isn't about that and never has been. It's about suppressing votes that are not favorable to the Republicans. That's why early voting is being cut back - early votes tend to favor Democrats. That is why needless hoops are implemented that in person voters have to jump through - hoops that voters that tend to vote more heavily Democrat have a harder time clearing. Absentees can cast fraudulent votes all they want, of course, because absentee ballots happen to favor Republicans. It's really quite obvious.

If you look at all the Gerrymandering that the GOP has been doing, in addition to supporting these voting laws, it is all about stacking the deck in their favor. In addition, it is in their best interest that the poor and disenfranchised do not vote, for these hardly ever vote for the GOP anyway.

However, so long as they do it wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross, they will rally the support of the less aware and more radicalized fringes of their party.

That is why I refuse to show my ID. It is a matter of principle.

How did you conclude that it is the GOP doing all of the gerrymandering? Both parties do and have done it for over a century. Elections have consequences and this is one of them.

Your Google search contradicts what you are saying for it only shows gerrymandering done by Democrats.

My google search shows to you that not just the GOP does it, which is what you said was going on. Refer to above quote of yours for reference.

That's one way to look at it. I look at it differently and I will simply not support a party who cannot win on their platform or record but must resort to taking away my neighbor's right to vote in order to gain or retain power. I've seen what happens when you lend your support to such parties. Not pretty.

You are on a roll with good posts today. :)

I think it's perfectly acceptable to show an idcard of the holder sitting in a naughty chair.

:D

So dramatic. If your neighbor wants to vote, he or she can get an ID card. No-one's taking away their rights.
