cybernutguy... Still small business is income from work... right.?

I too am self employed.. haha.. But IT is my work.. therefore.. i consider my income via my work.. or work related..

My Bad.. I misread.. augh..

so my correction.

I too...

Income is from my business... .. nothing is via job from a employer.. only via me and my work..

For a while after I retired from the Air Force and started working again, my military retirement was more than 25% of my income--closer to 35%. Since then my income has increased at a pace greater than my retirement. My retirements is now less than 20% of my income.

From 1992 to 2004 I was involved in direct sales. I sold a line of upscale home decorating products through the homeshow method. The product line was extremely 'hot' at the time and people seemed to have more disposable income then than now, especially during the front end of the business.

When I first began this business, I also had a conventional job. After about 4 years in it, I left my day job and devoted myself strictly to it. It eventually grew to where I was grossing more than my day job had paid.

As the economy turned, the company I represented started having challenges. They modified the homeshow method in such a way as it was less rewarding for my hostesses to be induced to have a show. I eventually left the business.

The growing use of the internet by consumers also affected this business, I believe. The ability to 'point, click, buy' is more attractive to consumers than a salesperson in their home. It's my opinion that these days a successful home business will have its 'showroom' on the web.

My answer was based on the fact that "other" income sources have never been 25% of my income. Sometimes close, but not that much.

I run a home-based web design company.

I run a home-based computer company (phasing out of that now....can't compete with Dell or Wal-Mart)

I used to make jewelry. Hands are too big really. I crushed a few 14k gold ring settings trying to set the stone. lol

I still make beaded necklaces (gemstone beads), but haven't sold any in a while. Haven't made any in a while, either.

I repair bicycles at home, as well as sell parts (if I have them).

I've worked on cars here a few times too. 10 years as a mechanic spoiled me though, and if I don't have a lift, I get grumpy. lol

I think that's about it for my outside-the-job endeavors.

I also sold all of the stock I had in the company I used to work for. That was about 20% of my income that year. Enjoyed that.... I made over 500% on it.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
